Getting a sexy new machine!

Getting a sexy new machine!

It's very sexy looking, in my opinion. I do like a black machine!  :sew:

As some of you may or may not know, for the past few years I've been freelancing for Toyota Home Sewing. I write sewing tutorials and project ideas and update their Instagram and Facebook etc (don't worry, as you can usually see from my wide range of discussion of machines I am not that much biased by them just because I freelance for them!)

The machine I have on loan from them at the mo is being discontinued so I'm getting this one as a swap. So excited! It's a specialist machine designed to be able to sew through up to 12 layers of fabric. I'm hoping to get into leatherworking at some point and this machine will be able to handle it.

Squee!  <3 :sew: <3

Wow, lucky you, I'm partial to black machines myself!  It'll be interesting to hear what you think of it.

Always exciting to have a new machine.  :D

Jessie, who is very happy to be here!!  :),  but who has far too many sewing machines to be healthy, and a fabric stash which is becoming embarrassing.

Woohoo! I've never seen a black machine before very cool. Looking forward to hearing how it deals with the leather.

How exciting, have never tried Toyota. Looking forward to see how it copes with leather too.

Check out vintage machines, they were originally all black with beautiful decals. Beware though, once you go down that route it's addictive  :)

I really would love a vintage machine... not that I have any reason or need for one.

But I keep spying them in the shop windows of the charity shops down here in Hammersmith. In fact there is a box for a Singer (the big old curved wooden boxes) in the window of Oxfam. But I daren't ask to look inside. No space to store one - I already have four machines and an overlocker!

I do really need to sell my old Brother machine but I can't find the foot pedal.

I've had to resist getting anymore, but I would love a treadle. I have the machine but no base and they go for silly money. Good job I've no where to put it or I might be sorely tempted.

Yes you do!!!!

What if you have a power cut, you could treadle away by candlelight whilst the rest of us modern girls fume!!!
Apparently some of the older treadles sew beautifully!

(blimey..whats happened to me!! :|)

Nice looking machine! Looking forward to reading your review of it!

It's hard to beat a japanned machine for black and shiny, although I like my 60s machines to be LBOW (light brown off white) except 201s I'd love a black aluminium one!

If you need any help finding a vintage machine give us a link to gumtree with your preferred area on the vintage board and we'll discuss it for hours :)

Now that is different!  A bit Darth Vader perhaps?  It looks like a mechanical machine, not computerised?  Looking forward to hearing how you get on with it.

Use the force!

Yes it's entirely mechanical, which I don't mind at all. The most important thing for me is a good punch when I sew, which this does have.

12 layers at a time? Just trying to imagine what sort of thing would need 12 layers at a time!  Does look very sexy though, bet you can't wait to play! :D

I can imagine some jeans would get up to twelve layers if you're sewing belt loops or similar.

Hi Fran, I am looking for a Bentwood box lid for my machine so that I can transport it when I take it in for service.  I wonder if there is just the box in one of those shops.

I like the look of the Toyota for a modern machine.  Be great to see how it copes with leather.  I have sewn leather on my Elna with no issues.  Happy stitching! :sew:
