I made my mother a quilt for her 90th birthday - hand quilted, the lot. When I'd given it to her and it was on her bed, I took a photo, and guess what - there was a 4-patch round the wrong way. Every time I look at the photo, it shouts at me, but if you look at the quilt it's very hard to spot, even when you know it's there.

I like it too.  It adds a bit of a story - character and individuality too.   :)
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

Nope, couldn't leave it.....all fixed...let's see if I have the same OCD enthusiasm by the time I get to the 9th block or, oh dear......the 12th (gads what am I considering here!).
Brenda, I may use your quilt for inspiration as at 70" square it is not going to be big enough for DD2's and hubbys' bed so I am now contemplating either adding more blocks and/or borders and farkles.

And Im it's a lovely fireplace and funny thing is I noticed straight away the difference in the little tiles but thought it was purposeful to keep the eyes focused on the beauty of them! Lord, I am a bit slow on the "catch on" aren't I...sigh.....

I love that pattern! Might keep a copy in my file. It would be great for using scraps too. How big is the pictured block? 32 must be a big quilt.

Ha! I didn't even notice the fireplace was imperfect. I did wonder why you'd thrown in a photo of your fireplace , Imi. Had to spend some time, even with the clue, before I noticed the little pineapple shaped things were different. How many visitors ever notice?

It reminds me of when I had my fireplace installed and the fitters just put the tiles in random order. They weren't too pleased when I made them take  the front of the fireplace all out again to fix them. Visitors would have noticed mine!

Just beautiful Ruby, I love your colours and the layout.   :)   Good luck making the very many more.  Looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.  :vintage:

I hadn't realised that that pic was only one block Rubes....you could very effectively QAYG that design.

Using dark joining strips will give the quilt a leaded glass look.

Sorry everybody I seem to have caused some confusion....the pic is of 4 blocks sewn together to make one of 9 larger blocks. The larger block as pictured measures approx 24" square so 3 X 3 is going to give me about 70" square. That will be just enough for the width of the bed but about 10" too short for the length....and just sitting on the top of the bed would look silly...I need some side hang so I guess I have 2 options:
Option 1...bite the bullet and make another 3 big blocks (12 little ones) to make the quilt 4 x 3 instead of 3 x 3. This would give me the rectangle I am looking for and then I would whack on a border to give it some side hang.
Option 2...use the Golden Ratio maths and just add a 15" border all around and make it 100" square.

Hmmmmm decisions, decisions.  I'm liking the idea of the 15" border...a lot less faffing about than making more little thingies and then still adding a border on as well. I dunno, I'm off for a Shiraz and some dinner..been a beast of a day at work!

My choice would be three more blocks Rubes and a border at the sides

Im having to make yet more (sigh) Tiddly Two inch Twist and Twirl blocks for the border of my nieces quilt.
Hideous drudgery now but got to be done!

At least Im not under any time constraints ...her 21st is next March!!!  0_0

Maybe I could procrastinate this by righting :o ... ahem...writing a thread about it...hhhmmnnn

Yeah, you're probly right....3 x 4 makes good sense. I'll have a rummage around tomorrow and see if I can find enough fabric and enthusiasm to sally forth yet again into the world of HST's. Okay, stomping off to bed now in a "sookie grump".

If you add a 15 inch border, you will have to quilt it all spectacularly - which might be what you want to do. of course, but ...

If you need to add length but don't want to make more full size blocks, add pieced sections top and bottom, in a complementary block style (peer at my avatar and you'll just about make out what I mean).
