I am making a skirt in black denim and plan to embroider some detail on the bottom front of the skirt. Which would you pick and do you think it looks ok in the variegated thread or would it be better in a solid colour (or stitched out in a colour pattern?)

I like them both, but probably the top one the most.
I think variegated usually looks best - the clothes I was looking at today in the shops failed for me because the colours were too distinct and separate - they had no subtlety.

Top one for me too, though I suppose it depends to some extent on how you plan to place the embroidery. I like the varigated thread.

Thanks a million. I didn't realise the picture had the flash on it and was distorting the colour. I really like the effect of the variegated thread but I wasn't sure if it was a bit out of place in the design. Can't wait to get it onto my pattern piece tomorrow.
