Jelly Rolls

I want to make a quilt from my Jelly Roll Book as I have reached an impasse with the Mystery Quilt  :|
I found a good pattern and suitable background / border fabrics ( 1.5m of each )
However try as I might, I cannot find a suitable JR. The problem is..... and I bow to the superior knowledge of Brenda / DOB for instructing me when I first started .... I need a JR with different colour tones and a mix of varying sized prints...which I can't find! I want a mix of blue pink, mauve yellow and aqua, but, all the suitable JRs have only pastels, or a mid-tone. I'm not buying lots of separate fabrics ( when it's a jr pattern ) so... any ideas please??
P.S. my local( ish ) emporium The Sewing Studio, claims to have the largest stock of JRs both instore and online, however, lots are "out of stock" so I can't even browse!!

Have a look at dhe moda jellies on plush addict. Plush have lots of jellies, but moda are exceptionally good at giving a mixture of similar tone rolls, and mixed tone rolls :)

I may have meant the sewingstudio but I can't remember. They both have a good selection of jellies, but I think sewingstudio may have more!

Yes, they do have a lot out of stock. I never buy from them, but good to stalk!

If you want a mega selection look at the fat quarter shop - best ever selection.
Also fabric.com and they have a sale on at the moment.

The only problem with them is they are US. But the fabric is cheaper... Often works out cheaper even with import and the selection is loads better!

I love the FQS. It's my favourite of favourite fabric places.

Unless you really need the full 42"-44" length of jellyrol strips why not buy FQs and cut your own 2.5" strips?

Or buy thin quarters (25cm cut from the bolt) and cut your own 2.5" strips. Proper P&Q shops will cut as small as that, my local one will cut from 20cm, and it's accurate as she cuts shorter lengths with a rotary cutter.
Brenda.  My machines are: Corona, a 1953 Singer 201K-3, Caroline, a 1940 Singer 201K-3, Thirza, 1949 Singer 221K, Azilia, 1957 Singer 201K-MK2 and Vera, a Husqvarna 350 SewEasy about 20 years old. Also Bernina 1150 overlocker and Elna 444 Coverstitcher.

Good idea Brenda, I'll try fqs as my local shop will cut 1/4m ( but no less  :( )

I have just been really naughty Low. Having said to look at Fat Quarter Shop, I went and had a look as I too needed jellies for my next project. And I got very distracted...I may have bought 3 collections of Moda FQs :o but they were so cheap...and so pretty, and so 100% perfect for what I needed.

As I was there, I did look through the jellies (all 16 pages!) and there are lots that have different tone and values. It's worth a look, even with Customs VAT on top, it really is pretty cheap in comparison to the UK. Well worth a look. They also have daily sales as well as regular big sales!

Thanks Syrinx, but I won't buy from abroad on principle.
I managed to get a rather nice Batik Jelly roll as well as a 45 / 90 degree ruler st The Sewing studio this afternoon. Not exactly what I wanted but I was impatient to begin  :|

Ha,ha, I knew you'd be impressed at my specialist ruler, but you need it as there are lots of hsts in the pattern I'm doing and they are mixed with other things so sizing is crucial ... pics to follow  ;)

I spent ages at The Sewing Studio yesterday and loved the Batik jr I bought... however.....having sorted the strips for the blocks for my Pam and Nicky Lintott new quilt ( a semi- sampler one ) They don't work  :'(
I made the first block and although it went together beautifully, it looked rubbish and the colours didn't stand out from the background ( good job I only cut for 1 block as it needs 2 of each  ;) ) Sooo....... ( shhh..... please don't tell Iminei ) I have decided to abandon the mystery quilt and use my no1 fabric as a unifying background for my new project. It is cream with a feint pattern and hopefully the batiks will show up against it.
Originally I was going to use the left over no.1 for the sashing but now I'm using all of it in the blocks...........hopefully this will be more successful.  :ninja:
