At least not paper bobbins that old. I think they sell prewound bobbins these days too, at least they did a few years ago, they can be paper. How much time and energy do we save by not winding bobbins?

Most wiring older than the mid 1950s are very bad, but there are a few exceptions. They had a type of woven insulation and it looks like it was varnished with shellac or something else; it made it stiff and was only used near motor for the less flexible wiring. I guess it must have be brushed on after fitting? I have seen it in radios too. Even 10 year old wiring can go bad under certain conditions, so check it carefully.

Pre-wound bobbins on paper spools are still available, but AFAIK only in the commonest sizes (for modern machines).

I have a couple of boxes of pre-wound bobbins (inherited at some time or donated as thread samples) but they are size F and I don't know which machines might use them - possibly an industrial?

Style F bobbins are 0.303 inches (0.986 centimeters) high and 0.770 inches (2.504 centimeters) in diameter. That's very similar thickness (height) to those for the Featherweights, but bigger diameter.

If anyone can make use of them they are yours for the postage.
60 x black and 40 x white.  Cotton 60/2 which is slightly finer than regular 50/3 cotton.
Brenda.  My machines are: Corona, a 1953 Singer 201K-3, Caroline, a 1940 Singer 201K-3, Thirza, 1949 Singer 221K, Azilia, 1957 Singer 201K-MK2 and Vera, a Husqvarna 350 SewEasy about 20 years old. Also Bernina 1150 overlocker and Elna 444 Coverstitcher.

Hi Brenda,

They do sound industrial they're bigger than the bobbins I have for the 95k but I couldn't work out which machine would use them either.

Might be worth a call to Helen, she may have some ideas
