Burda 6716
« on: September 13, 2017, 20:08:06 PM »
I was looking through my patterns to try and see what I might sew next and I realised I bought this pattern and it is a plus size and I am a 10-12.  https://www.sewessential.co.uk/misses-and-plus-size-shirt-dress-burda-sewing-pattern-6716?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8LC9r-yi1gIVTrHtCh35YgdyEAkYASABEgIA7vD_BwE

What I was wondering was whether I should get rid of the pattern (even though it is the style I like) or keep it and make pin tucks to make it smaller?   I really would like a style of dress like this https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/291678513353694747/, but not sure if it would work making it from a too big pattern or whether I would need to draft a pattern from one that fits.  As it is a knit I thought it might be forgiving, but I guess the problem would come with the shoulders.

Any thoughts?  I suspect I should get rid of it.  I always want to make best use of what I have but that maybe shouldn't apply to unwanted patterns!!!

Daft questions - Are you size 10-12 in RTW or a 10-12 on the Burda Pattern sizing scheme?

Thanks for the link, I am in-between 10 ad 12 on burda sizing and more at ten on ready to wear.  Bust and waist 12 and hips 10.

I think you will have to get another pattern because, AFAIK, the Burda Plus sloper is another draft: bigger cup size, different shoulder line (?) etc.

That was my thought too.  I started to look, but had to go out.  However, there are quite a few patterns with pintucks and it's just a case of having a bit of a root about.  :D

If you have some fabric you don't mind sacrificing as a toile you could try grading your pattern down from the smallest size and trying it out. This won't be difficult as the different sizes are printed one on top of another. This is quite a simple pattern too.You would do the grading by drawing directly on the pattern tissue.

I have successfully graded up several non-plus patterns by about 3 sizes into the plus range.

Thanks for the advise.  I will keep the pattern at the back of the drawer in case I do choose to grade down, but chances are I will just leave it and find something else instead, but there is no rush as I am not in desperate need of more clothes just yet.
