I'm sure I had a fluffy bolero like that too, Brenda.

The product was welfare foods; formula baby milk, cod liver oil and the sugar laden orange juice that could be bought for babies  :P  This was still in the days of WW2 rationing.

I was holding a bottle of the orange juice - I'm sure it wasn't  :gin:

The fluffy angora bolero was almost certainly knitted by Aunt Annie (my Grandma's sister) and the dress with hand smocking on would have been made by a friend of Mum's who did that sort of thing for a living.  When I was a bit bigger she occasionally gave me scraps of fabric to make dolly's clothes with as my Mum didn't sew.  The nice sensible shoes, I understand, were because I used to throw one foot outwards as I walked.
Brenda.  My machines are: Caroline a Singer 201K-3 born 1940, Thirza a Featherweight 221K born 1949, Azilia a Singer 201K born 1957 and Vera, a Husqvarna 350 SewEasy about 20 years old. Also Bernina 1150 overlocker and Elna 444 Coverstitcher.

I hate being photographed - they are invariably of the Milliband / bacon sandwich genre.  This is one of my sister and me that did make the cut.
Life's too short for ironing.

Rubes, you look gorgeous.......and so young  :o
Thanks everyone who is participating in this bit of fun.
I don't personally see any objection to "ordinary" photographs being online, but respect the wishes of those who feel they may be compromised somehow  -<
I don't like being photographed as, in common with many I'm sure, I don't actually look like I think I look  :D Same as hearing your voice recorded........eek!!
Still waiting for the errant IMINEI who unwittingly spawned this thread idea  :D
Keep 'em coming girls ( we'll know if you've been to the beauticians first  ;) )
Triumph of hope over experience :D

Not a photo, but this is the cover of a notebook given to me by one of my pupils.  All that curly hair, that figure - an uncanny likeness.  My left leg bends in an odd manner, though.

BrendaP - Judging by the wonderfully cheeky look in your eye, I always thought it was gin  :P :gin:

Btw here's a pic of the real me, on a recent forum get-together:
My memory of the evening is a little foggy, but I think Jessie could be there too, and a few other gals from here  ;)
(Of course those are vintage chocolate cigarettes... !)

I nurse unloved vintage Berninas back to health and then just cannot bring myself to part with any of them... 807, 830, 840, 530-2, 930, 910, and a modded 717 in a Singer treadle base.

I think you should put your own photo taken with the birthday gift.

Here’s one of me, probably same vintage as you, BrendaP and then one of me and my lovely hubby, indulging in my first love, walking up a mountain. Yes, even better than sewing, but only just!

Took me ages to find a picture of me - I am always the one with the camera.
I have to confess up front that this is a few years old - but only a few - promise!

@LeilaMay: your hair is gorgeous.
Thank you :) That was taken just a few weeks ago. I haven't had it cut in a long time, and as you can see I don't have it coloured. But I have to tie it up somehow now it's so long, or it trails into whatever I'm doing :)

I have a memory of having seen this photo of you before, or is it a new one?   ;)
