I'd mentioned recently that I'd been asked to cut up someones beautiful Wedding Dress to make a Christening Gown for a very poorly child, so thought I ought to show you how it turned out.

I used McCall's pattern M6221 to get the basic sizing for the bodice and sleeves...(there was no time for fittings to check the size).... and I also had enough time to make a very simple bonnet from the same pattern.

The gorgeous Wedding dress was crinkle silk chiffon over duchess satin...quite plain but very beautiful. I took the trim from the waist to use as trim on the Christening gown.

The back fastened with three buttons.

That is really beautiful.   :)
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

Truly lovely! Makes me feel rather sad for the little girl, though.  :(

That,s beautiful Sandra.  Love crinkle silk chiffon but not the easiest stuff to work with.  You did a great job.

That's really beautiful Sandra, I'm certain it will be appreciated. A couple of years ago DD tried to donate her wedding dress to http://www.cherishedgowns.org.uk/.
They couldn't take it at the time so she tried again a while ago but they never responded. I offered to sew for them (to send a sample of my sewing before they accepted/declined) but they never replied to me either. She would love to give her dress to such a cause.

It is a beautiful gown, and such a great idea to use a wedding dress.

Thank you for your lovely comments.

It was a very special order which I'm sure I'll always remember. I've never been asked to make such an item before, and hopefully, nobody will be in such a position to need me to make one again in those circumstances.
I was told that the mum cried when she saw what I'd done.
I was close to tears myself when I got the little sleeves in and hung it on a hanger. It looked so sweet.

I've just clicked on maliw's link to Cherished Gowns. I've heard of them before. I should imagine they're inundated with gown donations, but I'm surprised they didn't respond to your offer to help.
Now I'm toying with the idea of helping....but I can't. I mustn't. I have lots of other things to do...but I'll bookmark the site just in case.
