Looking for patterns
« on: November 29, 2017, 16:16:34 PM »
Hopefully someone can help me. I want to make pieced blocks featuring cats and or dogs. Either faces or whole animals, not fussy. I don't want to use applique.
Can anyone recommend specific patterns or books containing such patterns please?
I will only buy from the UK so no American examples please
Thank you  <3

This was all pieced but came out rather large ... but you could scale it down.
A lot of posts on FB at the mo are about pieced animals etc

Can't remember ... I'll have a ferret through my files.

All I found was this .......

I think I might have made it up, which is why it was  so huge!

Elizabeth Hartman has a range of patterns with various animals. Her patterns are available in the UK and Sew Hot have quite an extensive selection of them.

Thank you, they seem awfully expensive just for a pattern though :(

Low, they are from the Uk, they have animals on and you don't have to print them out yourself.  Think of the money you saved in the woolshop.

P.S.  I vote for the Sleepy Sloth or the rather cute bear.

You can find FREE patterns but you have to download and print them off!

A lot of them will also be paper pieced ...

unlike my fox which was made up of squares, rectangles and HST's.
Why not do what I did and try and work out the sizes and put it together yourself?

Start with the Fox as you can clearly see what its composed of
Draw it out on graph paper (or God forbid, print it out on graph paper) work out the sizes and off you go...

If I could do it, you can.

So ... I have drawn up a pattern.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/J2sJmSvIwn5fnzD62

All measurements are finished sizes so remember to add 1/2" to them,
with the exception of the HSTs where I would suggest adding an inch and squaring down.
There is a FG for the tip of the nose but that can be made (for those who are geese avoident) from 2 HST's (you will have to work out the measurements for that yourself)

If you want him to have cunning eyes or to wink at you, use the pattern of the eye on the right side ie the HST.

The border sizes are just my best guess as to what would look nice ...

So your mission Low, peeps, should you decide to accept it ......
