I’ve heard about twin needles on the 400 & 500 series... you just throw 2 needles in and you’re good to go... but I’d never tried it and hadn’t found much to support it as viable. Finally found this:

It’s a nice feature and nice that it doesn’t need the special split needle.

My machine booklet says it will do this - I'll look it out later and give the correct wording . . .
Singers - 28K, 66K, 99K, 201K - all manual. Singers 221K (2 of 'em), 319K and 401G - electric. Bernina 730 Record, Elna Grasshopper, Husqvana ~~, Grain chainstitch toy machine, most of a Guhl & Harbeck chain stitch machine called Lyra. And a Bernina under refurbishment for sale. That's all!  :)

That's it - the reason I was going to look it out is it does say you could use needles of different sizes for special effects. I thought I had read that but wasn't certain.
Thanks for the images.

That could let you mix metallic and normal threads and have almost a shadow- like silver and black on a red fabric or something...

I think my machines take twin needles, not two regular ones. Did some of the Singer models come with an extra needle clamp in the accessory box? I have to look this up, because I can't remember exactly.
