My Mother has an old Singer, which would probably cope better BUT I never got used to the speed and it's more than likely a 'four-step' procedure.  Now is not the time to start experimenting.  I will sort out the failures somehow.

It really annoys me that you can now get machines that do all manner of stitches you probably don`t want but none seem to be able to do a reliable buttonhole!

Does your mother’s machine go from 0 to 60 in a very short gap? Does it have one of the old button pedals?
Sometimes they need a gentle retune to increase the variation in speed. It’s a pretty straight forward change.

The machine is currently folded down in the cabinet and there is a guest in the room where it's kept for the next two days.  It's been a while since it was last used and could probably do with an overhaul in any event.  I may call on your expertise if I decide to do this myself. ;)

I have successfully redone two of the three failed buttonholes (yay), but have put off doing the last until my eyes have uncrossed enough to carry on. 0_0

The beastly dreess made from

The top buttonhole is proving to be a nightmare - I have had to unpick as best I can TWICE   I also had to repair one buttonhole because I went too close when I cut the opening. :[

I shall be going to my sewing teacher to throw myself on her mercy.  I will model it when completely finished before donating.

What's so beastly about it?  It looks good to me.

My choice of fabric contributed to my falling out of love with this dress early in construction and it nearly became a UFO except that I determine to finish what I start and NEVER to begin something else until, but in any event, the pattern works better as a coat.

I quite like the pattern of the fabric, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's a nice fabric!

Being designed as a coat the pattern will have more ease than a dress, and so it might have turned out big as a dress.

Looks good to me too. Love the print. What is the fabric and what is wrong with it?  I  sometimes  think we are too hard on ourselves and don't see what other people see.  Of course, they don't know what we know about the processes we've gone through to get to the end result.  The unpicked seams, buttonholes, the scorch mark or that place where the scissors slipped and had to be rescued with interfacing and a patch.

I think it looks great too. Seems a shame not to wear it at least once.
