I've just found out that McCalls were bought by CSS Industries Inc a couple of years ago and last year they bought Simplicity too. (They already own Offray ribbons and a couple of paper companies that do 'celebration' stuff.) I wonder if Simplicity will now appear on the Sewdirect site?

I do hope so. I often prefer their selection of styles. I do hope that the company remains distinct from McCalls.

I think the Simplicity operation in the US is different from the SimplicityNewlook company that caters to the UK market and, if so, we don't see these patterns on Sewdirect. SimplicityNewlook also incorporates Burda.

The worry I would have is that if one big conglomerate owns all the patterns companies we might get less individuality and more blandness. Fingers crossed - hasn't happened yet!
