Coming across some of 'TSF refugees' on the Stitcher's Guild and PR, I thought one cannot belong to too many sewing related forums
About me, I've lived in Hong Kong for half of my life (and am not exactly a Spring chicken) and am originally from Germany.
I've been sewing my own clothes since I was 12 years old, trained as a tailor, became a master tailor and later trained tailors. I worked in the fashion industry for 20+ years, left in 2011, studied Chinese and now work in an international school in Hong Kong teaching Textiles.
I'm the happy owner of a little flock of vintage Singers, love dresses and quirky shoes, swimming, scuba diving and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (not necessarily in that order :D
Looking forward to participating here.

Hi Manuela- nice to see you here!

Hello missus, join in the snark, we're not so delicate here as on some other fora...

Lots of familiar faces here, thank you for the warm welcome :D
Reading my way through the forum, I really like it here.
-
And hi from me. Glad you like our little place. :flower:

Hi Manuela, from another SG member ( very occasionally )
I found a lot of the people on there a bit too precious for me.
Pour yourself a glass of your favourite tipple and make yourself comfy. We're very friendly.!
Why do we have a fish emoticon, I hear you ask? That's for dishing out a good fish-slapping when people upset us!  :fish: :fish: :fish:
-
And if you are puzzled by the reference to fish slapping, this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhJQp-q1Y1s) will explain. 0_0

Hi Manuela - welcome from me too. :)
I seem to hang around SG more than PR for some reason but I've seen you on both although I didn't know your background so it's interesting to read it now.
Most non-sewers couldn't imagine the benefit of fish on a sewing forum but, when needed, a good size salmon and a hefty swing will usually win the day. ;)

Hola Manuela!
Nice to see you here!
-
After watching the videoUttaRetsch so helpfully posted, I agree that fish slapping can be very beneficial

No problem, just move to Hong Kong over the summer. 0_0
Seriously, I'm doing a 'sew your own clothes' summer camp at school. Would be a shame to let all those resources we have there laying dormant during the break.

I'm more than happy to post projects, is there any specific area, or should I do that in project related threads?
-
Hello from me :)
-
Manuela I have quite a few Singers, and they are without doubt excellent sewing machines. I'm talking here about the pre-computerised ones of course. ;) I have a Singer 328k which is very similar to the one in your pic.
The 611g was the last one I bought, and I'm still fascinated by her!

Meet my little champ Bella a Singer 222K, she is quilting 4 yards of perforated denim onto 4 yards of lace here....
(https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4158/33638851863_e5619273fe.jpg)Bella, my cute little Featherweight, lives now in Thailand and quilts like a champ (https://flic.kr/p/TfxUGx)
My boss thought she does me a favour when she gave me a computerised Bernina for personal use at work. I just can't get on with that machine, give me mechanical one - preferably a vintage Singer - any time.
I still have to see buttonholes that are as beautiful or better than the ones my Singer buttonholers makes...
-
I love your little 222k! It's one I haven't got, but would dearly love. I have machine envy!!
I have a computerised machine, a Pfaff 1475cd from new (so 30+ yrs old). The rest of my machines are oldies, rescues, donations or bargains, and I love them.
