Have you got any tear away stabiliser? Will help support the fabric but you can pull it off after stitching :) I do it a lot with embroidery on that sort of fabric. It gets ironed on, supports and then tears off like a dream :) I would imagine the sort of stitching that happens with buttonholes is similar to embroidery.

Thanks - I haven`t got any stabiliser but will give it a go - it`s certainly worth trying as it`s very frustrating getting close to finishing a garment and then it being spoilt by a dodgy buttonhole

Would it help if you starched it before sewing the buttonhole?

Yes stabiliser underneath. You could also try a wash away stabiliser on the top. Make sure buttonhole areas are interfaced first.

Have you tried taking some of the pressure of the foot, there should be some kind of button or screw at the top of the machine.
