Title: Smiley Shorts/skirt
Post by: Bogwoppit on June 08, 2017, 22:57:29 PM
I've been sewing for little people.
I made a circle skirt for a friends daughters 5th birthday (no photo, the party crept up on me and she moves too quick swirling in it).  Very quick apart from the looooonnnggg hem.  Not done anything like that long before.  I used my rolled hem foot and only went wobbly a little bit.  Getting better with practice.

With the left overs I made:
Oliver and S Lazy Day skirt with a ribbon hem (ace technique!), for girl aged 4
Oliver and S Sunny Day Shorts in dark grey denim with smiley side panels for her twin brother, tried my own adaptation of adjustable waist as he is very slim.
Another pair with smiley pockets for my DS also 4, size 5 as he's not so slim and growing fast.
Photo of these in gallery, not sure how to add link.

Also on the go are a black pair of shorts with orange highlights and orange top stitching (as requested by 8 year old DS)

I think I'm on to 12 pairs of those shorts now!

It takes such a small amount of fabric it,s wonderful  :)
What do you think of Oliver and S patterns?  I downloaded the Lullaby Layette set.  I wanted the little romper for my grandson as we had that hot spell.  Weather changed just after I finished it.   :S
But mum was pleased with it and I was asked if the next one could have an embroidered elephant on it.

I haven't used many patterns but find the Oliver and s instructions much easier to follow than simplicity/new look.  They have lots of ideas of how to adapt things on their blog. I'm waiting for my youngest to grow a little and then sew the field trip trousers in size 5, it wasn't worth buying the smaller size pattern so I stuck to practicing with the shorts.

I only have boys but the girls stuff looks good, lots of options for making things unique.

Thanks for the input.  I have got another couple of bits of fabric for another two pairs of rompers.
I could draft patterns for an older child but  none of my books go small  enough for babies.
