Has anyone used or does anyone know if scuba crepe is cool and suitable for the current weather? I've never heard of it but I've been out of the game for about 10 years so im assuming it's something new and from what I've read about it, it says it's got similar folding properties to neoprene whatever that means which is a bit of a worry as neoprene generates heat.
If this link works this is one of the fabrics I've spotted but I'm not buying any if it's going to be too warm. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Summer-Illustrated-Artistic-Flora-FlowerStretch-Scuba-Crepe-Dressmaking-Fabric/192209577240?_trksid=p2060778.c100290.m3507&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160727114228%26meid%3De6373468f6234f25974f199459c99a0c%26pid%3D100290%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D222538941554
Thanks in advance.

I haven't come across the crepe version but I have read that scuba jersey is mega hot and sweaty. :S
-
Well, I guess it depends :)
I have various scuba tops and dresses, and don't feel hotter than usual in them. But I'm very skinny and seldom feel hot in anything.
I love working with scuba tho. It's a dream to sew :)
Don't confuse it with neoprene. Neoprene has an extra layer of rubber that's quite thick, and that's what makes it insulating.

I've made a few things in scuba, but not scuba crepe. It's not the best if you're prone to perspiration, as I was when I was younger, but I think there are plenty of people find it fine most of the time.
This one doesn't look that thick simply because you can see the shadow of the fabric turned under on the model but it also drapes as though it has some weight.
Not for the sort of weather than we're having right now, I'd suspect, but for the average summer in the UK I think you'd have plenty of days when it was very wearable.

It screams 'crimplene' to me...but then I'm old.

You and me both DF. I think I'm going to steer clear of this, I do love some of the pattern options though :'(
Thank you everyone.

Nope nope nope. Scuba will make you sweat like a pig in a sandwich bag.

Good point well made!

DD likes scuba but it's not for me for the reasons above!

Ha ha!...crimplene is indestructible!... unless you get a fag burn in it! ( I have a piece of crimplene in my stash :ninja:)

I remember when my mum started making dresses in crimplene, it was the wonder fabric of the time! I may have even made myself crimplene trousers as a teenager - flares of course 0_0
But I think Fran said it all 0_0

I think we should get you some matches...

Pig in a plastic bag - now there's a thought to conjure with!
I made a scuba fabric skirt, wore it one day last week when it was a cool 25 and wound up dripping - so consigned to back of cupboard for the moment!

I'm a hot-all-the-time person and I could only manage my one scuba top in November, with no cardigan on at all, outside. And even then I was warm.
It's a very nice fabric, but not for me because I am too warm in general. My friends wear it but they are slimmer, and they only wear it in the winter.

Well, I'll have all your scuba! :) I love both sewing with it and wearing it!
