There have been lots of Q's about the White sewalong cropping up so although it's not for a few months I thought I would create a new thread where discussion can be had.
I'm also bringing the start date forward as there seems to be much excitement :D
Introduction
This competition is for white garments only. Any garment welcome including undies, but not home dec or quilts. You must use white fabric for the majority of your creation (more explanation later).
Dates
The competition will run from Monday 1st May (bank holiday) - Wednesday 31st May. You have until 23.59 on the 31st to complete. Due to my being away from the forum you have until 23.59 2nd June to submit your entry.
Rules
- Your garment must use white or a very neutral cream fabric! Preferably it should have no prints, though a white-on-white or very subtle print or pattern (e.g maybe through embroidery or jacquard) would be accepted. We ask that 95% of your item be sewn from white fabric. You can use colour on zips, buttons, bindings and interlinings. Use your own judgement when it comes to the 95% rule, or post a pic if you're not sure.
- You MUST NOT cut your fabric until the 1st May. You can only wash it, dry it, prepare patterns, sew a toile etc. You cannot cut your fabric.
- You must post at least 5 times in this thread to qualify. Please be involved and post updates!
- You must submit at least three pictures; one of your uncut fabric, one of mid-construction, and one of the finished garment. (These pics needs to be submitted at the end, so they don't have to be posted in-thread unless you want to).
How To Enter
Entries should be submitted by email to sewalongs@thesewingplace.org.uk with the subject Stash Sewalong.
Copy the following and fill it out:
Username:
A short title and blurb about your entry, no more than 150 words:
Attach three images as stated in the rules*
*If you have lots of images to share, send them in separate emails. Just write "1 of 3" etc in the subject line, or zip them up. Or use WeTransfer. We strongly encourage that you wear your garment or get someone else to model it for you. This is the main photo that people will judge you on and people really like to see others wearing garments, it looks a million times better than something hanging sorrily on a hanger! People are far less likely to be as critical of your body as you are, so please please please do consider modelling garments! These pictures will be posted in our gallery, on the voting page, and the winner's thread. If you have made a complete outfit with multiple garments, you can wear them together in one pic. Just state it in the email.
How To Win
Winners will be chosen by public vote.
Prizes
Thanks to Holly Berry who is donating the prize for this round!
1st Prize:
£15 voucher for Lovely Jubbly Fabrics
£15 voucher for Amazon
£15 voucher for high street coffee chains: Nero, Starbucks or Costa.
Runner-up: £5 value of the same as above.

*sigh* yep, wouldn't we all?
It was a tough job searching for these images but someone's gotta do it :*

Some lovely ideas there. Mine will be a shirt.
See, Done! :)

Got some lovely white textured cotton bought in Malaysia last year and today ordered a StyleArc pattern, so am up and running!
-
I bought some insanely gorgeous ivory silk satin last year, for a shirt for the missus- but she has not matched it to a pattern yet, so it will default to me if she isn't careful- it's way too lovely to sit in stash...
-
I'm thinking of making Simplicity 1106 (https://www.sewessential.co.uk/misses-tops-with-fabric-variations-simplicity-pattern-1106?gclid=CjwKEAjw5_vHBRCBtt2NqqCDjiESJABD5rCJLWVoLSq-vRbTuSEO2kQvDeCmp3Lo6RC2GtUyNWB_ZBoCdVjw_wcB)
View B (black on the pattern envelope).
Would a pink and white print for the back insert be acceptable?

Would a pink and white print for the back insert be acceptable?
I'm going to have to say no :(
I understand that it's quite a small part of the design, but I think the importance here is to sew a white garment, which means white fabric entirely.
-
OK - I'll think about a white lace insert.
-

Does it have to be a garment for a human?
-
Had a look through stash and I've got some 6" wide white galloon lace which just wide enough so I'll use that. It's symmetrical down the length so that's a plus point. 0_0
-
Does it have to be a garment for a human?
Nope! It just needs to be an item of clothing/wearable.
-

That's just reminded me that I have some lovely lace waiting to be used. Now, what to make?
-
Does the fabric have to be from stash - i.e 3 months old as the previous competition?
-
Does the fabric have to be from stash - i.e 3 months old as the previous competition?
No, it's a different competition
-
I used the pink and white fabric over the weekend to make a wearable toile. It's OK, but I don't really like the style now that it's made up so thinking cap back on to decide what to make with the white fabric which I have.
-
I've only just spotted this thread - and that the competition started yesterday. But no problem, I don't have any white fabric :(
Maybe I should order some white jersey from somewhere?? Although I'm not at all sure that me and white go together, it wouldn't be white for very long...
-
Pleased to announce that Holly Berry has offered to donate the prize fund for this round (what goes around comes around eh?) so a big thanks to Holly Berry!
-
I'm having to be really good this month, so I'm still stash busting like mad. Apart from the aforementioned ivory silk, I'm struggling to find anything inspiring in white. I do tend to go for pattern and colour, so this is a good challenge for me. I am wary of ending up looking like Moby Dick though...
Most of what I do have is leftovers and remnants from other makes, so I may have to get ingenious. I do need some more petticoats [never enough for a good steampunk] and I make those out of old sheets, so that may work. Perhaps I could find enough white jersey remnants to do something pieced, but white-on-white...
And I know I have a fair amount of lace in the lace-drawer...
I need to go stash diving, excuse me!
-
Most of what I do have is leftovers and remnants from other makes, so I may have to get ingenious.
This is what I like about these competitions, ingenuity!
I might even play along with this one, though I am wary of wearing white because I find it makes me look larger.
-
I am wary of wearing white because I find it makes me look larger.
Cheat. Make a white chiffony shirt, to wear over colours. Lovely!
Or a summery lacey white skirt, they're ALWAYS in fashion
Or knickers
Or a corset...go on, you know you want to!
-
I have a black and white leaf print skirt and wore a white 'airtex' gym top for school, but in recent memory I don't recall wearing anything all white.
-
Or a corset...go on, you know you want to!
Oh I so want to make a corset one day but the fact I can't even get a basic top to fit means a corset would never fit my crazy proportions!
-
Underbust, easy to start with!
-
Underbust, easy to start with!
It's the hips I'm more worried about -<
-
A generous 'Hip spring' is the aim of all corsetieres. I have to pad!
-
Why all the "expert" wardrobe planners say start with a white shirt is beyond me. Not since I left school.... :S
I've got a plain white tee-shirt and a vest top planned, I rarely do white, I prefer cream, it softer.
Are we posting on this thread?
Can we continue with a non-competitive stash busting thread?
-
Ive just cut out some White trousers from stash.
-
Can we continue with a non-competitive stash busting thread?
I'd love to continue a non competitive stash busting thread, as I found so much encouragement to sew my accumulated fabric.
I posted this http://thesewingplace.org.uk/index.php/topic,879.msg11468.html#msg11468. Perhaps we can continue on there?
-
Well I've decided it's going to be McCalls 6035 (https://sewing.patternreview.com/Patterns/36600) which I've made before, but this time I'm doing the sleeves with a drawstrings (view D).
I got it cut out and partially assembled yesterday.
-
Ooh I want to join in! I have some white lace somewhere that I want to make a shell top out of. Not sure if I will have time, but I shall do my best...
-
I now have a white shirt just waiting for its buttonholes and then the buttons but because my Husqvarna was making such crap buttonholes a couple of days ago I've just bought a buttonholer from Helen Howes and won't even think about doing the shirt buttonholes until it arrives.

I've just dragged out all my whites and creams, there's more than I thought! :o

The three in the middle at the top might be a bit to dark to qualify, but plenty to be getting on with ;)

Has my fabric got too much of a print for this competition?

Has my fabric got too much of a print for this competition?
It's very close but I'm going to have to say no to it because it does contain dark prints and I'm concerned it wouldn't be fair :( Sorry!

No problem! I need to make a shirt out of it by the end of May anyway, just thought the competition might spur me along!!

Hello Everyone!
I have completed my entry into the white contest!
On Thursday April 27th, I had a corneal transplant. And on Friday the 28t,h I was home in my own bed.
I rested and was pampered by My Beloved, and fed by the neighbors.
By Monday May 1, I was going crazy sitting around. My sight had returned and I was pumped full of
Anti- rejection (steroid) drops and full of energy.
I made a three-piece white ensemble for a charity event on the beach on Friday April 5th.
Really, I made all three items:
:button:A linen and lace blouse (my entry)
:button:A burnout knit tank top
:button:A linen skirt.
These are all Lutterloh patterns. And all three are my TNT pieces. My DH and I shall go to town manana and do a photo shoot on the beach.
I did have to taper the skirt by a full INCH. I have been working on losing weight.
I have made a composite photo of the front, the back and the fabric of the blouse, and the pattern picture. I was inspired by a photo on Pinterest.
As soon as the instructions are posted for doing a formal entry, I shall. With all of the proper photos.
I have spent most of the day fighting with Flickr, it seems that I have two accounts and I could not login to either. I tried Google photos, what a waste of my time and energy. So I followed Francesca’s advice and have signed up for Imgur.
She was right! It is easy to use.
I have been dreaming of an all-white summer wardrobe. I have terrible eczema and have worked hard on controlling my itchy fingers. I promised myself that if I could STOP SCRATCHING my skin would clear up and I would be allowed to have an all-white wardrobe.
So I have improved eyesight, clear skin and a good start on a white wardrobe.
And I am looking forward to being an active participant here.
I did not see my image in preview, so maybe it did not work.

Oooh Susana, what little I can see of those images looks LUSCIOUS
Can't wait to see you photo shoot. I'm currently wrestling with some evil 'wool' look poly monster, that acts like the worst of both. Onward and upwards!

Just to double check, did you sew this before the 1st May?
To clarify, in order to enter it has to be made after the 1st May so that it is part of the sewalong.

No I did not do anything on this until Monday May 1.
I am a fast sewist, these are TNT patterns, and the anti-rejection drops have me really hyped up! Good thing that this is not the Olympics! :D

I have found the following white fabrics:
1yd white cotton with lace cut outs which is only 70cm wide
1m white silk cotton blend
0.5m white cotton woven
Bunged them all in the washing machine (even the silk blend - eek - luckily it was okay!) and I will iron and post pictures tonight.
I'm thinking a fitted-ish tank top with a side zip out of the cotton lace with a silk cotton underlining, using the plain white for the facing. I might have to use the plain white for the back as well but we'll see when I get to the cutting out. I even found a white invisible zip, so fingers crossed I can make this without a single purchase. Yay!
-
Such a pity we can't enter things we've made before. This all-white 'Armistice' outfit is one of my favourites
(http://i.imgur.com/EaIrVKp.jpg)
-
We could consider doing competitions where you enter things made in advance in the future, but unless we all sew together it doesn't count as a "sewalong".
-
Indeed.
Beautiful blouse, DF and my, what a large glass. ;)
-
Well I think I am giving this a miss I have wasted a whole weekend on white stuff !! In fact at this moment in time I am considering putting my machines on eBay !!!
Fail number 1 a pair of trousers in a really nice white gaberchino ( well that's what they called it) pattern I've used before with a suiting which felt as if it had the same weight drape etc. Don't fit properly there are yards of fabric around the crotch and floppy crotches are never a good look  fit everywhere else and I made them exactly the same as last time
Fail number 2 a white linen top again made it before with no problem well it looks like a sack :'( the linen is slightly more lightweight than I used before but it just looks a mess.
I haven't lost any weight - I wish ! But it's just awful
I've spent all week no faffing around and now they are both in a plastic bag whilst I decide what to do with them. So I am off white big time
-
Such a pity we can't enter things we've made before. This all-white 'Armistice' outfit is one of my favourites

Love your blouse! <3

Well I think I am giving this a miss I have wasted a whole weekend on white stuff !! In fact at this moment in time I am considering putting my machines on eBay !!!
I think white is one of those colours that 'takes no prisoners' and why I don't wear it. The fact that you have successfully sewn both patterns before may just be down to the colour and fabric choices. Don't put your machines on ebay because you will be scrabbling to buy them back. 0_0
-
Love your blouse! <3
Thanks- it's Folkwear 'Armistice blouse' in silk/cotton. It's a very nice pattern, except the sleeves are outrageously long [I have monkey arms and still needed to remove about 3" in length]
-
The blouse is phenomenal DF
Didi don't sell you machines, :o go and make something in a favourite colour to build up your confidence.
Making a white bag and a blue dress :[ I haven't got the hang of this have I?
-
Just had a thought - I know - unusual. Can I use coloured buttons on my white shirt - I've got 14 to come up with and I'll have to go bloody miles and miles to get half decent white ones otherwise?
-
NO! [that's just my opinion lol   ]
-
Here's my fabric:
The silk cotton blend and the plain cotton are folded up at the top right... I mean, they're white fabric, there's not a lot to see! :D

Yes, as stated in the instructions you can use fastenings, zips etc as colour :)

Yhe embroidered fabric is gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.
-
ooooh that's luscious!
-
So I CAN use coloured buttons - so there, take that, wet fish DF!! I will thus do my bit to save the planet by not doing the 140km round trip to a button emporium! ( or button emporia, as we are now getting very heducated )
I did of course see coloured buttons were allowed after I posted cos I was a clever girl and went back to read the destructions, but not that clever that I could delete my question - Doh!!
-
So cutout and raring to go, so I thought I'd do the collar stand etc and get the fusing out of the way - use a press cloth, Jan , said I. So I did and transferred a gunky brown mark from press cloth to fabric.  Fortunately I have enough to make another collar stand and the old press cloths are now in ze bin.
-
Here's the cutting out before I splodged it with brown gunk from the press cloth.
-
Good thing it wasn't a big piece and you were able to cut a new collar stand.
-
Got some lovely white textured cotton bought in Malaysia last year and today ordered a StyleArc pattern, so am up and running!
I am looking forward to seeing your fabric!
-
Here's the cutting out before I splodged it with brown gunk from the press cloth.
I did the same thing. There was adhesive on my iron.
My DH who also does the laundry tried everything. Nothing worked. And sincve the mess was center front on the collar band I fixed it this way
(http://i.imgur.com/OpNlBXT.jpg)
I cut a piece of another kind of lace and hand sewed it over the brown spot. So it looks like a subtle design choice.

We need a fish emoji!
AN emporium
SEVERAL emporia
Not very heducated lol
I still think it's cheating

Since the rules were going to allow a little bit of color. And colored buttons do not in anyway detract from an all-white blouse, I like your idea.
Why not all different colors?
BTW, my buttons are pearl in a gold setting. :button:

Don't :fish: me for that one, the forum titles are Imi's doing  (Yes I know I'm a terrible tattle-tale)

I didn't see this post otherwise I would have entered my first blouse (definitely mainly white with teeny tiny dots and colour buttons on the back)...I didn't start it until after the 1st May.....I have some other white fabric that I can use...now to choose what to make with it xxx

No snot cheating - it's in the first page destructions.
I'll have you know we have 2 button emporia in Perpignan Madam

Baja Another brown splodge soulmate! I love your solution.
My fabric has such a tiny texture - it's a kind of shirting, so I doubt it'll show up. All different colours? Why not?
Fortunately I hadn't chucked out the scraps UR. Well that's not quite true , they were already in the bins so I had to pull them out.
Hooray for fish!
-
:fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish:
How do you make them swim?
TIZ cheating cos I say so and I'm older than you missy.
:fish: :ninja: :fish:
-
You make the fishes swim by putting them in the middle of the brackets when you click the moving M button
:meow: :woof: :fish: :ninja:  :toast: :toast:
-
I definitely didn't cheat with the buttons. I spent ages rummaging through this lot trying to find some that didn't look yellow or dirty next to the sparkling white fabric.
Once a sufficient number of matching buttons had been found (they do match even though one is at a slight angle in the photo and looks a bit different) I was able to use the 'new' buttonholer in earnest and it did a good job 0_0.
Just one minor hiccup - in the final press I managed to get a small gungy brown mark on the tip of the collar  but it has come out so shirt complete, I just need it to be warm enough to wear outside to get a good photo.
:button: :vintage: :button: :vintage: :button:
-
All cut out. :D :snip:
I am not skinny enough to get the front and back out of the lace fabric so it has a plain white back, which does mean I can keep my back darts and shaped hem. Yay! Not entirely sure how I'm going to handle the lace border at the side seams but I have left a bit extra to decide what to do with - I'm thinking of wrapping it round to the back but it will just be seeing what looks best.
The front of my pattern had a bust dart which I have moved to the armhole due to the embroidery. I haven't made a toile or anything so just crossing my fingers that it will fit okay :|
It's just occurred to me that I might want to add a zip placket so maybe I'm not quite done cutting out. I also need to find and cut some interfacing...
-
How boring is this: plain white tee-shirt and plain white vest ><

I'm still deciding.... I've got one already cut out, will that be allowed? I'm looking for a top pattern to go underneath the Dorothy dress which I thought would be OK, but I then noticed that it has a pale blue trim....
Still, I've got lots of white in the white box!
Jessie

Unfortunately if it was cut before 1st May it is not allowed, as per the rules in the OP.

Bet you're not! But if you're happy with the idea I'll play along!
As it happened I went to Perpignan today with MrC so looked for white buttons in both the emporIA - total waste of time - I thought it'd be nice to use a mixture of white and crystal buttons but still all different , as Baja suggested. There were lots, true, but so dull or ridiculous price - I need 14 for this shirt and I was looking at over £30.!!! - I don't think so. Back to Plan A - coloured buttons from stash. So what do you say to that DF ??
-
Lol I think I was talking to Fran...def not you lol
I saw something recently that used stacked buttons, which looked great. Was it here? Maybe, maybe not. Nice idea though, a too-small button stacked on a right size flat one. Interesting

Do you want me to get the bunting out again...?

Do we have a bunting emoji - that might come in handy
-
I have a "bunting" of goddess flags hanging outside my sewing room, blowing in the breeze...are thoes OK?
-
Whatever works for you, Susan.
My problem with bunting is that it was 'discovered' and taken up ad nauseum.
-
Style Arc patron destructions are minimal to say the least. Can't remember the last time I did a collar stand and it was interesting , to say the least. I took my time and pressed and ( whispers quietly) tacked the thing in place.
Decided to make this on my Singer 15 - very restful despite the fact that she has a motor.
I did have a moment when I thought the sleeves were too narrow - lessons to self - remember to measure biceps before cutting pattern.
It's almost ready to put a picture up. I'll do one later. Gotta go dance now - oh yes and do some more alterations :(
-
Catllar,
I just applied the collar to my lates blouse, and I am not at all happy with the stand or collar.
No one will notice, but I am not happy.
I have lost weight and need to re-draft this pattern, so I will make a new collar and stand.
-
I always always do collar stands the same way now, no matter the pattern. Stay stitch neck edge, and clip into the curves, pin and baste the ruddy thing before stitching. No trouble at all after that!
And you can all stick your rotten bunting where the sun doesn't shine. :P :S :

First we do not call pennants and streamers bunting.
Second I love pennants and streamers, they are fun, they add splashes of color and a feeling of excitement.
Bunting is usually red, white and blue fabric gathered into swags and drape below windows on election day.
On to makiung the sleeves for my blouse.
-
Lol Susana it's an ongoing 'joke'. Bunting USED to be red white and blue, and it USED to only come out for national/patriotic occasions, and I never batted an eye... but it's become a really cheesey decoration, which is, in my opinion, massively overused.
Each to his/her own of course, but the game is to wind me up by sticking bunting in my eye. I will continue to growl and rant, because it's expected of me.
And because I bloody hate bunting
 :fish:
-
OK so all well so far. I thought I'd post picture before I start the buttonholes and cod it all up!

Beautiful and crisp sewing, perfect collar band. Looking forward to seeing your buttons. And would love to see the pattern picture.

Very nice, especially the button back.
-
Thanks UR for posting that for me!

It is finished but one small fly in the ointment - my machine has lost the ability to sew a buttonhole - >< I played about with it this morning for ages - it will produce all the relevant bits of the buttonhole stitch pattern but sadly only in a linear fashion - so totally useless ! :'( This led to Plan B. No buttonholes. I stitched the buttons onto the back - to be fair, they'd never ever be undone would they? For the front, I don't do up collars either so instead of 5 buttons down the button band I just sewed three buttons close together at the bottom edge of the band in order to close it to a decent level and the rest stays open. I like the sleeve slit opening a lot.
Perhaps I need a new machine now??
Just looked at pix taken by MrC. Haven't got the collar turned down properly and I think that somewhere along the line I'll even off the bottom edge - will see how I feel in it.
-
A good save and it turned out nicely. However, I know what you mean about 'too white'.
-
I cannot tell as much from your pictures as I would like. They will not enlarge!
But your "Design Detail" with the buttons is perfect.
Do you have a computerized machine?
I use a vintage Singer 301A for button holes. It never fails and makes perfect buttonholes every time on any fabric, lace to denim.
I purchased it on eBay for $165 US.
There is a thread on PR right now about buttonholes and computerized machines. Actually there have been more than one discussion about computerized machines and the unreliability of the auto buttonhole foot.
I am on my third Janome, and before that I had 2 Elnas, they can only make beautiful button holes on the test pieces. Move to the actual garment, and the depraved buttonhole foot stops working, makes half a buttonhole or send miles of thread through.
My Janome 7700 is in the shop right now, it will be there until June 6!
I am going to use the Singer for everything, and buttonholes!
-
It's great Catllar- don't chop off the bottom, but I think it should be worn with trousers or a long skirt, so you don't get the clash between hemlines. I really like the asymmetry
-
You're probably right DF - I just wanted got take the picture and be done with it - it will look better with longer unders.
Susan, my old Singer doesn't do zig-zag and it's my computerised Silver HD one that's died! It must have read about depraved buttonhole feet and come out in sympathy. I know what you meant about them going OK on the sample then messing up on the garment!
I'm thinking I'd be perhaps better off with a solid mechanical that does a buttonhole.
-
Catllarwhatbis the model number of your Singer? He buttonhole attachment will most likely fit your machine.
My Singer is a straigh stitch machine with a buttonholer. There is even a zig zag attachment for thes old dowagers! Check eBay.
Off to catch some rays and siesta. My enabler fri nd is coming over with glute free cupcakes. Need to Rest up. :loveit:
-
Brilliant! Hadn't even considered the possibility of a buttonhole foot for the singer ( its a 15-88) Off to investigate - well, I will do tomorrow. Thanks Susan. :flower:
-
I adore my vintage buttonholer, it's an utter delight, and fascinating to watch. 8 almost silent, swear free buttonholes, in next to no time. What's not to love?
-
Didn't think i would be around for this so i am late coming to the party. Can i have a bit of pink ribbon on the garment?
I have been asked to make this.
-
I'm going to say if the pink ribbon is a fastening, then yes. But any pink decoration, then no :(

The ribbon is a fastening but the paws will be machine embroidered.

I'm afraid not then, as they're decorative.

My Singer is very well used. The buttonholer does a good job, but I know it can do better. so I am on the hunt for another one.
-
Thanks Susan. I've contacted Helen Howes, our european vintage machine guru. I need another bobbin winder mechanism for my old lady too so if I can get that sorted along with the buttonholer then job done, money saved and happy dances all round!
-
Buene suerte...good luck!
I just bid on a buttonholer on eBay.
I hate the bidding, I rather just buy it.
:loveit:
-
Hope you get lucky ! I got a reply back from Helen Howes - she's away from her place at the moment so can't get anything shipped out to me until end of May, so I must be patient.
-
Well my dear, my Janome 7700 is in the shop until June 6! We can be patient together. Vino tinto is called for! :toast:

Indeed - cheers!

I'm pretty sure the vintage buttonholers will fit model 15 Singers and the buttonholes they make are much better than anything I've been able to make on my Husqvarna.
-
:vintage: I was roubdly chastised on PR for saying that computerized machine just cannot make a good buttonhole! But those of us that have old Singers with buttonhole attachments know better.
I just bid on one on eBay because the one that came with this Singer 301A is very well-used and I fear it may give up the ghost. :button:
-
I'm afraid not then, as they're decorative.
Not to worry, i have just found 3 metres of double edged white broderie anglaise that i had forgotten had so considering making a shirt.
Thought i would share a photo of the top i made today for The Diva, just the tutu and paws to get done.
-
I was going to enter the top from the Dorothy outfit, but then I realised that it had blue ricrac round the neck and sleeves.
But, just picked up some luuuuvvly white laces, so got some to choose from.
When is closing time? ;)
Jessie

End of the month! Details in the first page.
-
Update on my shirt - won't be altering it to cut off the bottom. Wore it last night with skinny jeans and high wedge heels and got many compliments and asked where it came from and ( well this is France!) who it was by - snort, giggle!
-
who it was by - snort, giggle!
Hope you made up something outrageous, eg speciallly commissioned collaboration between Gaultier and...hmm...pick one!
-
sadly it was late in the evening and I was little too - er - tired - think of a witty retort! Suggestions for a new French designer are welcome in case it happens again??
-
Laplume de Matante?
-
Hmmm, wonder if they might not suss that one pdq?
-
Okay I'm finished!

Oooh - that's really lovely. <3
-
Charlotte! So very pretty!
-
I've made a bit of progress. Pattern and fabric chosen, one I've made many times before. It was getting a bit tatty, so I printed a new copy off. Under the influence of strong painkillers, after my fall, I cut out a toile....
Good job I did! I'd forgotten to txfr the alterations! >< So, today I need to raise the dart and the armhole, and take the front neck in a bit. No fb needed though.
Should be done over the weekend, but won't be anything like as pretty as Charlotte's!
Jessie
-
Charlotte that's breathtaking. I love white lace, used well!
-
Charlotte...That's lovely. :)

and to assure you that she will be officiating at the end of the White Sewalongathonathon on Tuesday.

Beautiful top, Charlotte
-
Hello everyone.
Apologies I have not been about. Family emergency coupled with being ill so I haven't been on the forum much.
Due to my absence I am giving everyone two extra days to get their pics in. Hopefully you will be honest and not sew any garments in the next two days ;) So please if you can check the first post and send your entry in to me you'll have until midnight 2nd June (UK time) to get them in.
-
Dammit! sentence number three foiled me!
My fabric only arrived today. Ho hum, not to worry lol
Hope you're feeling better, and issues resolved xx
-
You still have until the original deadline e.g tomorrow evening to sew! Just asking you not to sew on 1st or 2nd June though giving you that extra time to submit.
-
Absolutely beautiful Charlotte! :)
-
Drat! I made two tops, just as a sew-along, but haven't taken pictures yet.
I will do as soon as I have them :S
-
I've received two entries which I'm getting ready to put up for voting.
Anyone else planning to enter? Come on, these two ladies need some competition

Catlar! That gorgeous blouse MUST be in the competition. Write up your blurb, send your photos. Get it in. It is such a beautiful blouse. And your sewing is superb!
Did you ever get the buttonhole attachment?
I am replaving mine. I bought it for $4.99 US. The shipping cost to Los Angeles was $13.00! Afriend was filling a truck and is brining it down. Otherwise another 36% would be added to the cost.
Aaah, but a small pric e to pay to live in paradise! :loveit:
-
Just to let you all know I'll be opening the White Sewalong for voting TOMORROW :D

Voting open! http://thesewingplace.org.uk/index.php/board,63.0.html
