All done. :D. It actually needed 5” off, so I cut off about 2.5” , then pinned up 2.5” more , ironed it and pinned it , then sewed all around with stitch 8 the stretchy zigzag. After that I trimmed it close to the zigzag, which is a great tip. The sewing went really well, however the original cutting off of the 2.5” was tricky as the manufacturer (White Stuff ) wasn’t too fussy about keeping the pattern level on the patterned fabric. As you can see the line of flowers is way off,  :scream: but I had to go with what was already done or it would have been an uneven hem. Also a bit big for a 14 , but I’m not taking it in. It’ll be fine for a hot day if we get any.

Thank you all very much for the tips. I do have a twin needle, but have never used it, so I’d be wary of using it on my first attempt. I’ll have a go with the zigzag type stitches and see how I get on.

I bought a t shirt online, that is way too long, making it look like a nightie( not a good look!) I need to cut about 4” off and hem it. I’m mainly a quilter and craft sewer and although I have made clothes way back in the past and scrubs during Covid, I’ve not really used stretchy fabric.
Does anyone have a Janome machine, who can advise which stitches are best? I’ve googled, but can’t find anything too clear. I’ve got a TXL607. I’m guessing that I’ll need to finish the edge and then turn it up and hem.

Won’t be sewing today as I’m meeting a friend. Don’t have much on the go anyway, though I need to shorten a t-shirt and I’m not sure about sewing stretchy fabric  ::thinks::

I’m not on Facebook @Ouryve , but I just shut down the box where it asked me to log in , using the X in the corner and I got in. :D

Great to see @Sara-S . I think I recognise your Halloween quilt  :loveit: Lots of inspiration for everyone from all those lovely quilts.
I’ve only been to one quilt show, but I must try to find out if there are any locally.

That was really interesting. I’d never heard of Sanquhar gloves and I’ve lived in Scotland all my life. The woman recording the patterns seems to be a quilter too, from the picture of the cushions on her sofa.

I’m indoors today, but I’m wearing jeans, thermal vest, cotton jumper, fleece and pure wool neck scarf 😂 I don’t wear jeans etc in summer , but that’s still at least 6 weeks away!

I finished my 3rd scrappy quilt last night. What will I do now?

It is backed with the narwhal fleece remnant that I used on the flannel quilt and I still have lots left. I’m going to keep this quilt and will eventually give it as a gift to a baby. It’s a simple pattern, but I like the way you can see squares in the pattern or big stars and it’s a good use of all those tiny scraps. :D There are a few non perfect point joins, but hopefully a non quilter won’t notice!

I did some straight quilting first and then used various forms of simple fmq to stabilise the tiny scrap squares.

Oh dear, but at least you know how to look at the innards. I wouldn’t have a clue and as to fitting a new motor!…

A Good Yarn / Re: Or give up

Oh dear @Sewingsue , I sympathise. I have several times almost finished baby cardigans and then not liked the colour or the pattern and have ripped them out to knit something new. I have also sometimes knitted the back of a jumper and thinking it’s going to work out too big, have just done a fudge by knitting the front a bit smaller, but the same length . It’s frustrating to rip things out, but no point in knitting something that’s not going to be right.

I’ve started quilting my 3rd scrappy quilt. This one I’m going to keep to give as a present eventually. The design is so geometric that I’m , unusually, doing lots of straight line quilting with the walking foot. I might do a little bit of  fmq in each block, I’ll see.
