In the wardrobe / Re: Vogue patterns

Yes I posted about the rise in Vogue prices  somewhere else on TSP a couple of weeks back.I think that the drop in value of the pound against the dollar hasn't helped. The flash half price sales on sewdirect are rarer now too. And remember the very old days when they did 'buy one get two free ' flash sales? I'm hyperventilating at the thought.

On the strength of one English great grandmother (I don't know how that happened) I'm happy to celebrate St G's Day too. And I really love Wales....  :D

@wrenkins yes I think it is football and rugby which has helped make kilt wearing popular. You can even get polyester kilts now (shudders). Your OH is perfectly entitled to wear a kilt and be a bit Scottish. Everyone can! Just like everyone is Irish on St Patrick's day!

My DH wears a kilt to our Scottish country dancing classes here in Englsnd. He once wore the whole kilt outfit to a black tie do in Manchester and had a wolf whistle from someone in a car! Kilts have become much more popular in Scotland in the last 30 or more years. They weren't really worn as much when I was growing up north of the border ( a long time ago  :S )

Yes that's lovely @Ravingdoll and much nicer than anything Margo wore in the Good Life. Now all you need is a bit more summer!

Patterns Discussion / Re: When do Simplicity patterns go on sale?
« on: August 25, 2018, 21:22:34 PM »
They had a 25% off sale not that long ago @Clareew so it probably means they won't  be on sale for a while yet. Interesting that it was only 25% off and not the usual 50%. Also the current  Vogue sale is only 40% off. Patterns seem to be getting more expensive in the UK. The pound dropping against the dollar will probably have something to do with it.

The UK Simplicity website does a pattern of the week for £2.95. It's worth keeping an eye on in case a pattern on your list turns up.

@Lowena I only keep my 1975 patchwork pieces cos I can't find them!! (Or at least I think I've kept them. Who knows what is in that dark far away corner).

Other pieces of  fabric are kept as one hopes to get the chance to use them at some point. But I do have fabric culls from time to time and give things I no longer love to charity shops or the local school.

Oops. I've just remembered some patchwork I started in 1975 which I think is stored under the eaves somewhere. If I can find it it will be full of vintage Laura Ashley prints.
