I forgot this place existed. I have had some beautiful interfacing from them before. Thanks for the reminder!

Wedding done... next project:

I have this memory foam seat cushion for my home office desk.

It is extremely comfortable on my Ikea folding chair and can be easily stashed away when my home office has to become a guest bedroom.

After two years, it looks like some degree of homeworking is here to stay, and I'd like to upgrade my office space a bit. I was thinking of making a new cover for my cushion, perhaps in some lux velvet upholstery fabric - I've been looking at the thread Missie started for ideas.

How would you tackle this project?

I can see curved lines, which presumably give the cover shape around the bend (like inverse princess seams). Can I just trace off the old cover, or do I need to cut it up to get the right curved lines?

Should I make a mock up of the cover first once I've got a pattern, or will I be okay snipping straight into my (potentially pricey) upholstery fabric?

How about a purchased roller blind inside the window recess with a faux blind peplum in your fancy upholstery fabric outside the window recess?

Thanks for all the lovely compliments! Wedding is 26th February, so 10 days to go now!

I'll upload some wedding pictures after the big day.  :D

Finally finished the last one! Fitted 5 days post-birth. We lowered the neckline and I let out the side seams, but the skirt was great with the elasticated empire-line waist.

And the last one is done!

Obviously I still have to fit and finish the top and hem of the skirt for my post-natal bridesmaid. (Her due date was yesterday, but no sign of impending arrival yet!)

Unfortunately one of my bridesmaids can now no longer make the wedding, which is really sad. (She's moving country for work and won't have her passport back from the visa office to come back.) So these are the other four outfits which will actually be appearing at the wedding:

A bit of a 'do' / Re: Bridal Lace
« on: January 13, 2022, 16:10:50 PM »
I assume you will be making a toile. Use a nice stable fabric for this (I always like a calico) and this will let you perfect the fit and get the right amount of ease.

I highly recommend Alison Smith's Craftsy class on working with lace, which goes through all different types of lace.

Lace is usually fairly transparent, so I am assuming you will have some sort of under-layer? I hand-stitched lace motifs to my bodice, which had a silk layer underlined with cotton lawn, then a layer of tulle over the top and I stitched the lace on through all these layers.  This made it nice and stable. The illusion back and neckline, which were just tulle, were pulled down by the weight of the lace, and I had to add a layer of silk organza at a later stage to support it.

I had to hand stitch due to the beading on my lace, but it is possible to stitch the lace on by machine. I did a machine stitched 'invisible' seam, overlapping the lace motifs and following the motif lines on my mum's mother of the bride dress, and this might work for applying the motifs, depending on the lace you choose.

Looking forward to hearing how you get on!

Another toile/skirt without waistband finished. This one has a cap sleeve and a strap option. Seeing this bridesmaid next weekend to fit the toile and then I can get on and make her top.

And then I have also done as much as I can for my currently pregnant bridesmaid who is due four weeks before the wedding! Skirt has an elasticated band to sit at the underbust rather than the waist, and her top is designed to be nice and loose with plenty of ease on the bust and waist (I used the Grainline Studio Willow Tank as a base). It has huge seam allowances and I haven't sewn the hem or facings so I can do plenty of alterations - change the neckline, add some waist darts, and obviously take the shoulders and side seams in and out. Hoping not to move the bust dart (just adjust the shoulders and reshape the armscyes until it's in the right place!) but I think there is plenty of room for manoeuvre.

I absolutely love the buttons. They are vintage green glass and I think they work so well with the fabric. I did 'cheat' and use elastic button loop tape, rather than making rouleau loops though!
