Title: Alterations £45
Post by: Vegegrow on July 19, 2017, 09:55:01 AM
Sil has just sent me my nieces skirt for the Indian wedding next week she paid £45 to have it altered... it doesn't fit
Pic 1 Its panelled so you'd think you would take a bit off each panel ... well I would ><
Pic 2 bottom of waistband facing not very securely stiched for a drawstring  :S
Pic 3 and when the facing is too long you chop it in half...  :[
pic 4 all the front panels were taken in unevenly and none of the excess fabric removed no seams pressed open and the 2 layers of lining were pleated up haphazardly

it is now unpicked and I shall do my best

Whoops only 1 pic attached ...shall try again

Wow!
... none of the excess fabric removed ...
I'm thinking this may be a bit of a saving grace.

just unpicking the back then I'll unpick a front panel and see if its marked the silk ...needle holes may rub out and I can make panels even

Good grief, no way would I have handed £45 over for that abortion.  Good luck with it, on the positive side it does look doable though.

Oh, dear...it does look a scruffy mess.

£45 just to take in a skirt?

I suppose it's a good thing they left all the turnings on and didn't press it very well/at all. Hope they at least used a nice new machine needle and it hasn't got snaggy stitch holes.

Good luck!

Sandra.

Somebody told me a tale of dire alterations yesterday..... bridesmaids dresses, one size 10 that was too small and a size 12 that was too big...but  the size 10 girl had tried the 12 dress and the 12 girl had tried the 10 dress. This wasn't noticed so off the dresses went to be altered!..

All done .. and now scrunched up in a parcel to send back  :[
undid all the previous alterations and made all panels the same width... Little beaded top has an v shaped cut out on the back and that had to be pulled in at the waist as well

You've pulled a success from defeat - well done! And as for the wrong size dresses - should've gone to Specsavers! 0_0
