I've got a vintage Singer box of needles - round shank, class 16 x 231 no. 16
?
Would these have been or an industrial machine? Do they have a current use?

They are used by light medium industrial machines like the 96k apparently. According to Amazon anyway:)

These are still the most common "industrial" size (system or class is proably a better term). My Phoenix takes these needles, it's a domestic machine from 50s. There are lots of needle systems, industrial or not, but they if someone just sais "industrial" this is the type. 1738, DBx1, 16x31,..., are the same needles. I have no idea why these needles are listed under at least six different numbers.

I need to order some needles for my Phoenix. I have a few packages of a low priced brand but they are no good. They snap the thread and it took me a while to discover it was the needles. I shall have to stick to more reputable brands. This brand seem all fine in the large sizes (20 and 22), but for the regular sewing they are too crudely made. I have found Schmetz in size 19, but most commonly I think 12 to 18 is the most used size? I'm talking too much, but 16 is spot on what I need.
