In the wardrobe / Re: Wardrobe switchover time?
« on: April 14, 2024, 22:05:36 PM »
Yesterday in the garden in a short sleeve t shirt my arms got slightly brown, so today I suncreamed before going out briefly then coming in to put on a fleece. When May be oot then I might cast a few cloots but my year round uniform is jeans & a top except for those few days on a sunny holiday when the knees & arms are uncovered. It's time to put the boots & parka away though I reckon.

The Haberdashery / Re: Fine line marking?
« on: April 10, 2024, 16:58:50 PM »
I use a water soluble marker pen. They do make a very fine line one as well as the standard nib. A bit of water (or spit) erases the line. HOWEVER on some cotton fabrics ironing makes turns the ink permanent dark grey, so needs to be tried out first. The ink is blue so won't show up on dark fabrics.

Sewalongs and Competitions / Re: Weekly Sewing Club Tuesdays 2-4pm

I was in the sewing room but not sewing. Remember I said a sewing friend had challenged me to crochet a pair of baby bootees? It's easy, she said, if I can follow a YouTube vid so can you.....well I couldn't get the hang of it so she very kindly made them for me. Complicated by the size of the new baby's feet! Baby C's feet are 9cm long already whereas friend's 4 month old granddaughter is dainty & fits the newborn size. Anyhow, friend didn't have time to make the Converse style star-in-circle so today I've taught myself to crochet a circle. I then sewed a black star on then stitched them onto the boots.   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  I know, the stars aren't level. After taking this pic I unpicked one & moved it so they match. Tomorrow I'll hopefully see them on the baby.

Patterns Discussion / Re: What size to make?
« on: April 04, 2024, 15:54:41 PM »
@CAFCgirl you've posted in the correct place! Which Zoe pattern have you got? If it's this one  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  then the hips look to be quite wide in relation to the bust. Measure the paper pattern at the hip line & see how it compares to your measurements. You need around 8" of ease on top of your hip measurement. The expert dressmakers will say you need to make a toile before using your good fabric but for a straightforward design like this I think you'll be ok just measuring the paper pattern. Do remember the seam allowances though. Looking forward to seeing photos!

They look great @Cazlyn. The rivets add that finishing touch. Very neat topstitching too.

Those old machines are fairly simple& reliable @Greybird. As long as it has the basic feet it should be good for your granddaughter.

That's a lovely piece of work. It must have been very difficult following the chart with all the different greens!
