Sewing Machines / Re: Loosely wound bobbin and needle threader

I would definitely rewind it. The bit the bobbin sits on whilst winding ... should ... pull off with a good tug

Then put the bobbin on the spool holder and rewind onto another bobbin perhaps guiding the loose bits that didnt wind on the bobbin at first, if you havent cut them off.

Make sure you get them through the tension discs and that the bobbin is sat properly ... there's a notch.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: Back again

You'll probably get more use out of it that way @Diane ...

I dont know about you but my big bed quilts are only used on extremely cold nights ... and how many of those do we get in DDD ??? Having said that, the way this year is turning out, this winter will be the next ice age!!!) whereas a good sized lap quilt will get used every evening during the Autumn, Winter and early Spring !

Block of the Month 2020 / Augusts BOM - Bears Claw and Maple Leaf
« on: August 01, 2020, 10:34:02 AM »
Summer is well on its way to over

and again we have a TWO Part Block of the Month ...

Both blocks are similar and use techniques you already know,

Remember, for the eager beavers amongst us, that all these blocks need to be  layered and quilted ready to assemble in the Autumn.

Tutorials for the various techniques are available in The Darkside Tutorial thread

Do read right through the AUGUST's BOM before you start!!!

So without further ado ...

Here we are at the SEVENTH BOM month of the 2020!

AUGUST's BOM

There will be a minimum of Twelve 12" blocks for this years BOM:
Some months you will have two blocks to make and some only one.

In October I will guide you through layering and quilting your blocks
and in November I will take you through  assembling them, using a QAYG method,
into a fabulous lap or cot sized quilt (or even a series of comfy cushions.)

And everyone who finishes the year with a completed quilt (or full series of cushions)
will receive an exclusive The Sewing Place Prize Winners Badge or Sew on Patch

I have chosen a monochrome theme with pops of colour for my quilt,
you may choose whatever colourway/theme you like ...
Brights, plains, patterns, pastels, neutrals ... the choice is yours!

As ever when you click on the link, select the first picture,
and click on the i icon to bring up the destructions
on the right side of your screen.

Do read through The Basic Basics Thread before you start.

Please post pics of your blocks each month and by the end of the year we will have a fantastic album for the archives

Oh ... How very, very posh!!!!

Is it Bernina made or ... Wait for it ... Elnnina made (Im soooo clever  hahahahahahaha)

Very very swish!

If I ever source the Elvis fabric I want I will attempt a second do-over and as Elvistoo is stored apart (on his box in the corner of the dining room .. STILL .. to my shame! :( ) His current jacket suits him fine!

:o  Now really @TartanPaint  ... You really shouldn't ask that sort of question on such short acquaintance   :faints:

She got it from a woman who was selling up her fabric business. Some of it is incredible. It's beautiful. Riley Blake, Tula Pink, vintage licensed Disney stuff,

I ... errrmmm ..... Dont suppose you have any Elvis fabric in there do you ??????

though it can be a bit difficult if the fabric underneath is the same colour as the markings.

Very true and something I come up against all the time ..

What do I do ???

Turn the fabric over, if its a printed cotton the reverse will be lighter and much more visible!

When you find the ruler for you, you'll stay with that brand.

I had Omnigrid (after the seweasy shambles) for years, made all my mistakes on them, chipping the corners with my RC etc ...  and then, last year was hankering to upgrade to Omnigrip, the one with the adhesive markings ... (because when I applied my sandpaper dots I naturally applied them to all the wrong places ie directly over the 2 1/2" square markings) ... when the wonderful @Puzzler  very generously gave me some gift vouchers for my birthday with the heavy hint ... 'they sell Ominigrip you know' ..

So Tah Dah!

I now have a new spanky set of Omnigrips ... (without the chipped corners and  scratches cos my RC techniques are better now) ... Just the 12 1/2" sq to get and I'll be as  happy as a Sandboy!

@StitchinTime   ... Just shows ... different strokes for different folks !
