Welcome @Sewingdude . I've got a soft spot for vintage machines too.

I've used one in Hinckley but that's the south of Leicestershire compared to you @infinitysewing

That sounds great @So Chic . Where was the class? I went to an exhibition of sashiko in London about 5 years ago and it was fascinating. :)

Vintage Machines / Re: Guess What I Have?

I was gifted a 201k from a dear friend. It needed a little TLC but it's a lovely machine to use.

I've got a lot of attachments for it so I'll check if I have any duplicates which might be useful for you @Bill

Welcome @sewing grandma!

I've got a baby granddaughter and am looking forward to sewing for her. She's 6 months and I've only knitted so far but hope she'll wear dresses eventually! What things you make for yours?

Sewing Machines / Re: What features/stitiches will I need?

I like the Brother Innovis machines. In my experience, I never use the majority of the stitches, but straight stitch, zig zag, and having the facility to adjust the needle position left to right is good. Needle up and down, needle threader and thread snip don't sound essential - but once you've used them, you wonder how you ever managed without!

Here we go, cosy mittens. They are not going to win any design awards but they are warm!  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Sewn up  :faints:  What is this 'sewn up' of which you speak

Well, it's just a side seam. But I hate sewing up - and that's why they've been sitting around, knitted but unfinished, for at least a month!

I've finished knitting my mittens but not sewn them up yet. They are two tone blue and grey as (as I thought) there was not enough royal blue yarn left. I'll post a photo when they are finished!

I've made some progress but I'm not convinced I'll have enough wool in this colour. They may end up with contrast stripes!

My mittens are cast on, yay!

I'm using an old pattern (Sirdar 5761) and doing the cable mittens in some charity shop yarn which I've already made a hat from. I hope there's enough wool left!

I will join you. I've not knitted mittens for a little while.

I made some fingerless mitts for my son last winter and he was pleased with them 🙂

I'm glad I'm not the only one who scratches their head over Drops patterns!

Jessie

Me too! I just cannot get my head around them!
