A Good Yarn / Re: Ploshkin - Weaving Along
« on: September 08, 2023, 20:51:58 PM »
That looks lovely...you’re off to a great start  :D
When using a finer warp (usually 8/2 bamboo), I keep my warp edges as stable as possible, either with a floating warp (thread), or doubling my outside warps.
Looking forward to following your weaving journey!

Looking good 😊. I normally only have 1 cross at the top, but it is the most important part of warping IMO.  Good idea to cross them in bundles of 10 (or even 20) at the bottom - saves counting and tying them mid-warp.
Looking forward to seeing your progress

Oh, you lucky thing 😊. That looks a lovely loom with plenty of scope for all kinds of weaving, from plain or freestyle through to patterns. It looks nice and compact and the bonus of folding up for moving or space saving.
A few months ago, I opted for a Saori which is only 2 shafts, but suits me perfectly, as I concentrate on free-style/Saori style. I did think about 4 or more shafts, but decided to start off ‘small’.
I find the rhythm of throwing the shuttle very calming and almost meditative, without the extra effort of lifting/replacing the heddle with a rigid heddle loom.
Look forward to seeing some of you work as you progress 😊

@BlueCat
I have a couple of RHL and I must admit I am getting bored by the structured weaving, I have been playing with tapestry weaving lately but am very taken with your Saori, the loom look interesting too but not easily found.

I started with a small rigid heddle, but treated myself recently to a Saori. I find weaving on the Saori more relaxing and easier to ‘create’ something.
Although I will keep the RH for the time being, I think I will always choose the Saori first.

@BlueCat the foam does give a nice finish.  Do you find the rivets stay put!   Always a bit doubtful about using them.

As long as I use the right size of rivet for the position, I don’t have any problems. I have a desk top rivet press which I can really squish down quite hard (not enough strength in my hands for the hand-held type).
Some people put a dab of superglue just inside the hollow part of the rivet stem for security (I would be too frightened to drop any glue on the fabric  😳).

They’re fabulous @BlueCat.  What did you use for interfacings?

I used medium interfacing and foam (for structure) on backs and fronts, and interfacing and lightweight wadding in the side panels.

Entry from Blue Cat...
Accessories are my ‘thing’ so here are my entries...

Entry 1 is a ‘Snowdrop’ pattern from Blue Calla. Made with Japanese cotton and faux leather.
Accompanied by a Saori woven art scarf in the same colours. The scarf is very long and soft; weft yarns are wool, acrylic, roving, ‘fur’ and anything else that came to hand in those colours !

The second entry is another ‘Snowdrop’, again in Japanese cotton and faux leather. Another matching Saori woven art scarf, this time slightly shorter, with wool, acrylic, roving, ‘fur’ yarn and a hint of gold.

Fun with Fabric / Re: Workbench Mat Material Suggestions please

Mr BC bought a table protector for using with his guitars (the brown coloured type with thick felt under.....not pretty, but does the job)

Thank you Leila May. DM sent.

Hi Leila

I would be interested in it. I am looking to gather different yarns (even small amounts of fancy or plain wool) for my weaving projects.
Is it still available?

Following @SewRuthieSews example I have started my own SWAP diary but here is my plan with actual fabrics but not necessarily what I will end up with making!

Ooh...I like the look of those. Is the little lacy/tunic top, at bottom, a pattern you have/know of? Fancy making something like that for myself

House Beautiful / Re: curtain for a small alcove window

How about a ‘swing arm’ curtain pole that swings round (90degrees) to cover the window?

(Sorry, can’t post a pic of it)
