Sewalongs and Competitions / Re: The Official Scrap Quilt Sewalong 2024

I've been spending a lot of time on Pinterest saving numerous scrappy quilts trying to find ones I like...and there are a lot I really like.

I'm still hopeful I'll join in with this.  :thumb:

I have 86 quilts on my scrappy quilts board, so no shortage of ideas

I’ve booked a workshop to make McCalls M7324 in March.  I’ll be buying online as our local fabric shop has closed down.  Please could you advise me on what is meant by “lightweight cotton?”  Are there any keywords I should look for?

TIA

I can’t view the second video, @SewRuthieSews .

Bonnie Hunter is the queen of scrappy quilts so there are a gazillion ideas and some free patterns on her website https://quiltville.com/index.html. ETA She also has a YouTube channel, @Lowena .

I’m going to dig out my Arkansas Crossroads and use scraps but in a limited number of colours.

I have a partially made scrappy quilt which I could finish as part of a sew-along.  I started making it using random scraps, but think I’d prefer something more cohesive, so I’ll have to do some unpicking before I can move on.

Please could you repost your video link, @SewRuthieSews

It would be good if we could include different crafts, @Cazlyn , @SewRuthieSews .  I might even make one project a sewn garment

I’m really not sure, @Boppingbeth .  I want to make clothes that I will wear, but at 58 years of age, I still haven’t discovered my style

Thank you for resurrecting this thread and sharing your experiences, @Boppingbeth .  I find this thread so interesting.  Maybe 2024 will be the year I find which patterns work for me.

A Good Yarn / Re: Anyone used Drops Alpaca?
« on: November 18, 2023, 18:34:20 PM »
I’m surprised to hear that, @Sheilago .  I haven’t used the alpaca but I have used other Drops yarns and have always found them to be very soft.

It probably would soften with washing, but it’s a risk so might be better to return it.

ETA I’ve removed the other thread

A Good Yarn / Re: AUTUMN SOCK KNIT ALONG. 2023 New
« on: October 20, 2023, 10:23:12 AM »
I found Winwickmum an excellent site and pattern. I've used  this for my socks as well as for the males in my family.  :)

That’s what I used for my first ever pair.

Does anyone have a good pattern for a stretchy cast on and rib?  Mine goes a bit saggy after a couple of washes.
