Fun with Fabric / What do I do with this
« on: February 29, 2020, 16:58:59 PM »
https://www.thetextilecentre.co.uk/collections/jersey/products/bonded-laser-cut-squares-scuba-type-jersey?variant=18056765828

Don't ask me why I bought it -  Ok - I just  did - Right. Gin may have been involved. It's really thick and just like scuba ( odd that!) No idea what to do with it, wondering if I can risk using it to re-cover an ottoman - could paint the sides  black and use this on the top.

Any other suggestions? Anybody else bought it?

Patterns Discussion / PDF paper
« on: January 26, 2020, 16:38:07 PM »
Please feel free to move this if it's in the wrong place Admin!  Whilst I like PDF patterns for the instant gratification sometimes I wonder. This pattern  has 63 pages and they all need trimming one side and one edge. Brains here decided to try and assemble it in my sewing room, then got very annoyed when I couldn't. Mr C came to aid and suggested the floor in the lounge might be better. I had thrown the sheets in the air in a fit of temper and he carefully re-sorted them and laid em all out for me.

The Show Must Go On / Here we go again for 2020.
« on: January 05, 2020, 20:58:42 PM »
Here's the base pattern I chose for our contemporary flamenco group.https://www.tissus.net/36-m7728-0e5_combinaisons-mccalls-7728.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAr8bwBRD4ARIsAHa4YyKUzYxqD8IE8kVSNZkrhx4C-chquOS-yBNa7gb0VTPq5M7ryE20DSwaAgoEEALw_wcB

We bought some fabulous bottle green ponte for the pants, some figured bottle green lightweight stretchy knitty gorgeousness and the sleeves and top yoke will be in a lovely pale beige stretch plummets, that's a sort of semi-transparent soft tulle.

The Show Must Go On / Easing back gently
« on: November 15, 2019, 15:19:09 PM »
So the next round of costume sewing is starting. I have 15 crossover tops to make for our littlest dancers - some of who are only 3 years old this year. Going traditional flamenco red this season for them.

A simple batch of waistcoats , only 8. Stretch lightweight denim, should be an easy sew. These will give a new look to the skirts I made a couple of seasons back, also in the stretch denim. The zero budget has shrunk to minus zero this year -  the association is in the red so we  have nothing to spare for costumes. I expect make do and mend will be on the cards again.

Perhaps I'll start next week!

The Show Must Go On / Dead simple, for a change
« on: November 09, 2019, 11:05:31 AM »
Her's a pic of one of last year's new costumes - so simple! jersey pants overlaid with chiffon floats, top in jersey crossed at back, chiffon sleeves. Belt from cannibalised  embroidered shawl and fringe. Made a set of  12   in electric blue, fluorescent orange, fluorescent green and andalucian green.

In the wardrobe / more stripes
« on: November 06, 2019, 12:35:02 PM »
Before I made the basic t-shirt I initially bought the fabric for this. The top   panels are lined with nude jersey in order to prevent knicker show through!

In the wardrobe / Black? What was I thinking?
« on: November 02, 2019, 16:25:33 PM »
I hate sewing black fabric - can't see it well at all, so can someone explain why I bought black 4way stretch viscose jersey (  slippery,  heavy and drapey and silky) and have cut out a Love Notions Tank  :frock:? AND why did I think it'd be a good idea to line the bodice back and front with the same black fabric? Oh yes, to avoid the back and armhole bindings on such slippery fabric.

I thought I'd put pockets in the seams too, and make it maxi length and add additional godets  in the side seams for a touch more swish. And while I'm at it I might put built in cups in the bust. ( that's still a might)

So what started out as a simple afternoon make has turned into a full blown project. Why am I almost incapable of simply doing the pattern without changing it? I'm sure it's not only me?

Fun with Fabric / Half metre cuts
« on: July 24, 2019, 16:34:17 PM »
Really annoy me. I just ordered what I thought was going to be 6 metres from an online site only to discover it will be 3 metres - now it's probably my mistake because there is a box to tick that say "We offer our fabrics in half metre lengths .. blah blah blah.." So I though to myself,  " yes well whoopee " and merrily ticked the box ( it was after wine o'clock in my defence) then once I'd Paypal'd I realised what I was getting, so quickly placed another order to make up my yardage.

In their defence I emailed and asked if it could be cut as one piece and that is no problem, but why  the need to sell in half metres at all?

In the wardrobe / No more sewing for me.
« on: July 12, 2019, 20:02:49 PM »
I've decided today not to sew anything else for me. :\

I never, ever like the results. I'm happy as larry making stuff for clients but never satisfied for me. Today I put on variously, a pair of palazzo pants - yuk , then I tried a SA top I finished yesterday - double yuk. Into charity bag. On went bought dress - very happy.

In the wardrobe / English Seams
« on: July 02, 2019, 14:02:54 PM »
Just had a vid through from a french sewing blog I following which they referenced English Seams. What is this? I ask myself, always interested to learn a new technique.  It's what they call French Seams!
