Fun with Fabric / Re: Cover beach umbrella

That's lovely Marga dn you have a completely individual parasol. My most cumbersome thing recently has been a barbecue cover - himself had a gigantic barbecue complete with extra external burners, shelves and worktops. The cover I made from ripstop nylon.

I love this thread and the variety of inspiration! I don't possess any kimonos or dressing gowns or robes - when I get up I get straight in the shower then get dressed and thus do I remain till I get undressed to get into bed. Hangup from childhood and Mother, I reckon!

If you're after a twist front top then have a look at Love Notions Patterns - I think it's the Lotus Blossom top. Looks a bit more relaxed than this one and gets good reviews.

They're great Manuela. You could use some coloured cork for the bottom too, together with bag feet.

Oooh lovely (rubs hands together) another newbie, falling into the sewing pot!!! The beginning of a long journey of adventure and discovery!  Vintage  :vintage: all the way.

Hint: Not elastic in this case. >:) (tried it - big mess)

I like your idea costumelady : one to keep in the memory bank for next time. Could be tricky for sleeves though and I reckon you'd still have to stabilise the mesh cos it moves around a lot under the presser foot.

The Show Must Go On / Re: Fads in Fabric
« on: May 25, 2019, 23:17:22 PM »
Back in England I had a dance school with 200 kids from age 2 up. I did wardrobe there too. Never had a problem organising/ herding them into costume. The difference here is that these are French and don't have the same ideas! Children are king here, and ways that worked in the UK don't work here. I'm a grump but, like you, the kids seem to be attracted to me - I just can't stand noise anymore! From the parents there is this sense of entitlement and that really hacks me off, considering they don't play anything towards the costumes. :o

So the black  and the blues are done and I started on the bordeaux today. Forgot to add that this beauty is not only velvet and stretch but it's also finely ribbed - Oh aren't I the lucky one.  Had a fitting session yesterday and I'm afraid I totally lost it and threw a huge hissy fit : what with the children being excited about their blue twirly frocks, mothers fussing about and each one demanding my undivided attention ( god forgive me, but " Jan, what's this? er  " it's a hook and eye" " What's it for?"   and " where does the zipper go?: and  "which way is the back?"  That'd be the side with the child's name label in it. grrrrrrrr :S :S :S :S :S  multiplied by 25!

I made sleeves and a yoke from this stuff. I used tearaway stabiliser underneath and then close overlocked it with no knife. For extra safety I went over the seams twice. Tore out the stabiliser very carefully! They are fine and they still stretch.

Fun with Fabric / Re: Tricky stretch faux suede - any ideas?

Just seen this thread - I made  a set of flamenco dresses from this stuff a couple of years back and I did it on the 3 thread overlocker.  Worked fine. Horrid stuff to work with - vile to touch!

Do you really need stretch mesh? Don't forget there is quite a  bit of mechanical stretch in tulle.

Black 13, bordeaux 11, blue 9.

The blue is done - almost .Wednesday I see them for final fitting - the tops are asymmetric one shoulder.

The blacks are coming along - oh but the fluff .....- and the bordeaux is starting at me from under the cutting table.

Thank you for that lovely image, Lollipop!
