Does anyone know the name of this block? I want to make this with  a jelly roll I have but the picture takes me in an endless pinterest loop and then tells me to update my flash (which is up to date!)

I could work it out but would rather follow a pattern someone has tested

It looks like a variation of Card Trick.

Well that's a challenge for someone!

It does indeed look like card trick with a black square in the middle

@Sakar  ... you like these geometric illusion type blocks ... Have you seen this?  know how its made?

I reckon you could adapt The Very First TSP BOM in 2017 @RJR_38 to make that !

Edit! No Its simpler than CT as its not on point ... more like @Lowena's  favourite block  ... square in square ???

I am tempted to give this a go using my BOM fabrics.

Wouldn't you start like a log cabin block?  I've made it in paper. Start as you would for a log cabin, but add an additional black log (4 1/2" x 2 1/2") next to the patterned one.  Then add a 6 1/2" by 2 1/2" log in a different pattern at the bottom.

In my pic, the red is in place of the black.

So you would make four of these in different colours and on the fourth, the longest piece would be yellow and go to the left of this one.

Clear as mud.

Thanks Pearl - this is what I sketched out but nowhere near as pretty as yours haha. My brain struggles with spatial awareness and shape which is why I wasn't sure. Will have a go this morning and post it up   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Ok, I've made up a block and we figured it out right!  Thanks everyone. This block is one of my least accurate but I've figured out why (my whole foot piece wasn't tightened properly after switching from FMQ foot).

Off to make some more properly now...

It looks like the 'lucky knot' quilt block or something very similar

I looked in Jinny Beyer's book and that was the nearest that I could find.

Normally I would- I love bold! But I'm making it for someone who likes subtle and delicate so it will be the fabric range in the photo.

That looks lovely Pearl! Definitely easiest with non directional fabric but ok with directional once you get your head round it

Adding to the neverending list of quilts that will likely never get made. At best it's 5 years down the queue.  :pin:
