Muna and Broad?
« on: May 17, 2020, 08:56:01 AM »
Hello, I've run a search and can't find any mention of them: https://munaandbroad.com/

They are very niche, designed mostly for very large women (I would be one of their small sizes!) I love the lookoftheir tapered Willandra trousers:

Does anyone have any experience either of their patterns, or that strange diagonal seam?

Many thanks!

I've seen this just now.

https://craftingarainbow.com/2020/05/13/testing-the-muna-and-broad-willandra-pants/

Dated 13th May 2020 and the writer says the pattern came out about a week ago, probably that's why there isn't much information yet on the made up pattern.

Oh! Just seen this sew along youtube for the pants pattern too.

Also, seen this too. Has lots of people commenting.

Pattern was released May 5th. First a petty observation. The models are the two ladies who run the company. Some of their sample photos are frighteningly bad. Pants in linen showing horrible thigh wrinkles, hands thrust in pockets, over sized and poorly executed boxy tops obscuring much and my cardinal sin for promo photos,  standing pigeon toed  like some 5 year old.

None of this shows the garments in the best way. It creates a lot more work for us to sort out if a pattern is worthwhile. It always makes me question the professionalism of the designers.

Now. The pant you like. I really like pant waist bands done this way, elastic in back, flat in front. Us girls with bellies don't need gathering over them and blouses hang better in front.  Use a wide sport elastic. They're soft, non curl and very comfortable. I've been using Stretch rite sport elastic for years. It even holds up for years of wear.

The diagonal seam is a great device for gals with either highly protruding bellies or backsides, especially if you have either but not both. If you're unbalanced in your side view it can be really hard to get a side seam to be properly vertical and in the right place so it looks good. A seam like this eliminates the problem.

I personally like slightly less of a taper on the leg. But their wide leg pant was really not flattering.

Price isn't bad. I'd give them a go.
Hey Bill! Read the manual!  Hehehe.

Just want to say thank you for posting this link - they reference other curvy patterns which I've bookmarked. :) :)

Interview with one of the ladies in the link above. She says what experience and training, education she has had in the
link. I don't know about the other lady not looked anymore atm.

@Lizzy777 thanks. I'd read the "about" page and their backgrounds. Other gal runs the web stuff and first tried sewing in 2017. She's pretty much the business end of things.

Thank you all so much! I am not very good at navigating all the sites, and I am especially grateful for the helpful links. I agree that the photos are not flattering, but I can look past that.

My favourite 'curvy' patterns are Cashmerette, probably because I'm Jenny's shape! But her only trouser patterns are jeans and a new wide-legged trouser (which I know won't suit me!).

I'm going to have a think about this.

Have you looked at the Curvy Sewing Collective?
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.
