[SOLVED] Blurred avatar across top

Can I ask why the Member photos have all expanded to close-up? To be honest, the blurred aspect really hurts my eyes! Does anyone else have this problem?  :(

Yes, I don't like it either - such a blur it defeats the object. I thought perhaps it was a blip and would revert to normal quite soon?

I'm looking at TSP on my phone and all is normal.

My photo looks really strange- all you can see is my horse's legs (well, they're better than mine I suppose)
I have learnt by my mistakes: Sewing machines now are Bernina 720, Bernina 1008, Bernina 801 from 1981, Brother overlocker, ancient but works well

I thought it was a problem with my Kindle because my phone and PC are fine. I agree though,  it's very distracting.

It's been like this for a while. Because the limited space we have to display a user's avatar is square, we cannot accommodate non-square avatars. Users who don't upload square avatars (or in some cases upload a square one that is tiny tiny tiny, like 50px square) will be expanded to fit.

In some cases the blur is created by uploading a tiny picture and unfortunately we cannot help it in those cases because we can't blow something up that is too small to start with.

If you'd like it to not be fuzzy, please upload a picture of decent size (e.g above 150px) or a square one.

Fran, I think people are referring to the way all of the avatars are now appearing on my kindle - they've been like it for 2 or 3 days.  They've moved from the side of the post to above and are all just a wide, thin strip with a small section of the picture greatly enlarged and therefore blurry.  It's like looking through a letter box without your specs on.

Fran- on my phone, things look normal if I hold the phone vertically. If I hold it in landscape, the avatars are a bit distorted and take the whole screen, which is fine. I tried to add a picture so you can see it.
On the computer, the avatar had been sort of like the picture for the last few days, which was strange. Some were more distorted than others.
However, right now, looking at the computer, everything is normal.

Ahhh yes, you're right! Apologies.

Essentially I changed the breakpoint at which the avatar block goes above the post, so it will now do it on more devices. However I hadn't realised it looked this bad  :x Sorry for that everyone.

I was trying to avoid having lots and lots of breakpoints (i.e different variations based on different widths). Previously there were 6 different variants of the page based on what width your page was, which was becoming far too much to handle. I reduced it to 2, but was perhaps overzealous.

I will look into adding a third breakpoint to fix this issue. So there will likely be one for mobile, one for tablets and small screens, and one for full-width displays (rather than one for full width displays and one for everything smaller like there is now).

Apologies everyone  0_0

Is it just me or does everyone now see the avatars across the top of each of each thread in a long narrow blurred strip? I usually view on an Ipad , so maybe that's got something to do with it. ( You can tell I'm no IT expert ! :D)
Was wondering if I should try changing my photo to something better, but not sure how.

Maybe just your ipad?  It's fine for me on my laptop.  Guess that's not a lot of help really  :S

There was a whole 'nother thread on this yesterday & day before.  It's in the cafe entitled 'Members photos - style change'  (sorry don't know how to link it)
Fran has now changed something to correct it but on my Kindle it still appears as you describe in landscape orientation but is as it should be in portrait - Kindles are a bit weird anyway and seem to do their own thing..

Still long thin and fuzzy on my iPad even in portrait. Should I try to change anything?

Thanks, have read the other thread now. Not sure why it's still a problem on my iPad, but not a big issue, I can certainly live with it!
