Ploshkin is correct, I do use the board method and find it far, far superior to using noodles. The boards are rigid and help control everything and I have then basted with either pins, thread, or basting spray....I prefer the pins but will use spray if it is just a small project.  Sharon Schamber has an excellent tutorial on board basting...she just talks a bit too much but it's worth watching.
I just realised my subscription for here as expired...I have just this moment "paid up" and once it is processed by Im I will post some photos of my board basting.

....and the dusting and vacuming can wait!

Be careful with the spray basting Peeps. They should only be used in an extremely well ventilated area. I only do it outside. Inside you should really be wearing a respirator and have a strong exhaust hood.

That stuff is wicked bad for your lungs.
Hey Bill! Read the manual!  Hehehe.

My friend put thick walled PVC pipe inside the pool noodle. Not so flexible.

This wall quilt is about 50" x 60". it's the one in my avatar. I hand basted this one with dissolving thread .

Certainly makes basting and sandwiching easier and you can leave it half done and come back to it later to continue and everything is still just as taut.
