Thank you @bec

@Iminei I actually don't know the answer as I simply bought 1/2 metre offcuts from the fabric and quilting shop that I sometimes go into.

It's similar to the Star of Virginia except our block has pattern in the middle

According to '5500 Quilt Block designs' by Maggie Malone it's a varient of a block known as Ribbon Star ( p98, no 1267), the little on point square in the centre being the added extra. Couldn't we call it Dorset Ribbon Star?

@Iminei  Yes it's a variation of Ribbon Star.  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
piccie from Jenny Beyer's 'Quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns.

As Kad says it's the little square in the middle which makes it a bit different - unique.

I agree the name should be Dorset Ribbon Star or DDD Ribbon Star, or even Iminie's Ribbon Star.

I finished up mine today. My creative effort gave me lots of trouble in figuring out what size to cut pieces at. I first tried to create a "shortcut" way of doing multiple pieces at one time and made multiple mistakes in the process. Finally grabbed my Creative Grids Flying Geese ruler and took the easy way out instead.
