Oooh Kimono jacket!!

When i was in my very early 20's I had a gorgeous handmade (not by me) black and white patterned reversible one that I literally wore to death....

mmnnn I wonder if there's a pattern for something like that?????

That's it then Imi, you have to make a Kimono jacket  0_0  :vintage:
Willing but not always able :)

I have these

two lenghths of 'Hanako' print fabric ex of Liberty's and read somewhere that the pattern is based on a Japanese design.  However, they are my preciousness and were never going to be cut plus I no longer sew anyway.
Pamela! These are lovely and infidelity Japanese inspired. So you do not want to cut into them>  Make an origami purse and matching bra. Then later you can unfold them, press them and still have the fabric!

Thx UR

How does a PDF pattern work ... considering my printer only prints A4 ??

and if I made that does it promise that I will look like that ????  0_0
I googled patterns, they are really expensive aren't they?
There are good PDF patterns and terrible PDF patterns. I enjoy  taping them together. It is fun to watch the pattern take shape. If you live in an area where patterns are hard to come by PDF patterns are just a click and a roll of tape away!
An excellent PDF pattern company is Lekala. You can input your measurements and receive in minutes a custom pattern and they are very inexpensive.

Not very inspired or inspiring but I'm going to use this sewalong as an incentive to finally get round to making a summer dressing gown to replace the one that I made in the mid seventies that fell apart 5 years ago.  I'm using the same pattern (it cost 85p in those days!) which is a kimono style and I have found some fabric.  I will post pics later as the light is not good this morning.

PS There are some lovely cotton fabrics on the http://www.japancrafts.co.uk/store/c1/Featured_Products.html site.
I make a new robe every ten years or so. that is how long the fabric lasts! A kimono robe would be perfect for this sewalong!

I love sticking together PDF patterns because it's an excuse to watch television!

I've got two possibilities for this sewalong.

1, I've found a free pattern on Craftsy for Turning Japanese Bag and I've got an off-cut/remnant of blue figured satin with butterflies which I think would make a nice evening bag.

2, I've got a metre of black, white and gold P&Q fabric printed with cranes but absolutely no idea as to what it could make.  Inspiration needed.

What about a lovely sewing machine cover?  Something like this http://blog.hobbycraft.co.uk/how-to-make-a-sewing-machine-cover/   8)

That is a good idea :)

Caroline (aka  :vintage: 201) came with a bentwood cover but that doesn't slip on and off easily - the key has to be turned and where she sits the lock is right against the edge of a shelf, so it's being stored in the attic.

Why not make two and see how they go? You can choose which one to submit at the end.

You could make the suggested machine cover or what about a storage duo / trio - whatever??

If anyone is still looking for some Japanese fabric, Japan Crafts has some gorgeous fabrics. Katie goes to Japan several times a year to source the fabric herself. And her prices are the best I have come across (including her postage costs).

I always have several of her fabrics in my stash, so I'm ready to join in the Japanese Sewalong
