Need help using 4 fabrics quilt pattern
« on: July 13, 2020, 17:52:14 PM »
Hello everyone,

My first attempt to a quilt (lol) is finally done. yyyaaayyyy! So nice to see a finished project!
I made a few (a LOT of!) mistakes...but I have enjoyed everything about it and now ready to make another one. :)

I have only 4 fabrics (+ another for the backing)...what would be a nice (easy but yet looking amazing) pattern for me to work on using only 4 fabrics on the front?

If you have made one...have you got any pics to share?

Thanking you in advance

Before we can bamboozle advise you we need to know more about the fabrics, colour and quantity of each...

I'm a big fan of Rail Fence for a beginners quilt pattern - rectangles are as straightforward to sew as squares.  It can look good with just four fabrics - but you really should be thinking about starting a stash of :fabric:

Julys Brucie Bonus Block of the Month only uses 4 fabrics .... Dark, Medium, Light and Background.

But it is an intermediate level rather than beginner (in my opinion)

Stitches used to have a very effective rail fence as her avatar.  Do you have a pic, @Stitches ?

A few Rail Fence quilts pulled from the web.  All made with 4 fabrics.

Your colours all look good together
but be aware that you will loose the jungle theme as soon as the fabrics are cut into strips.

Yes Brenda, this is my worry. I don't want to lose the theme. so perhaps it is best to have squares (disappearing 9 or 4 blocks?)

So difficult to find the right pattern for the fabric.

Something like this might work, although you might want to turn it through 45 degrees so that the animals were upright in the squares!

And rotated...

I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

Disapearing 9patch could work as long as you position your Star fabric in the corners ... I would say you need a plain bold Bright pop pf colour in the centre to be your quarter squares

Amazing!!! you are all so talented!!

Yes!! This is what I will do 9patch...

The big squares can be the 2 jungles colour, the small squares can be the stripes and the long ones can be the small elephants.

Do you think I need more fabric then?

Has anyone made a quilt with only 4 fabrics on the front? Can you share any pictures if you have?

Thank you all so much
