My beautiful Singer 201P

Here she is pictured today in the glorious Australian morning sunshine.
I know.....Its not Black!!!!
I got it crazy cheap.
The wiring was lethal so I rewired the complete machine.
The case is beautifully made.
I don't know if it is an original Singer but I have read that the Australian assembled Singers had their own cases built for them out here.
The Singer parts were sent to Oz and the 201Ps were assembled in Penrith.
Sounds like somewhere in Cornwall.
It has " Made in Great Britain" stamped on it.
I have cleaned and oiled it and it works superbly.
I made and stuck some leather patches on the case interior as the felt ones were a bit stinkey.
I made up some simple bags and filled them up with freshly planed Camphor wood shavings.
This makes her smell nice as well!.
You can see by the condition of the box that it has hardly been used.
It has had one owner since new who has now passed away and her daughter sold the machine to me.
It was only used a few times to repair odd things.
This was apparent by all the different coloured bits of thread on the three bobbins which probs came with the machine.
Even a spare belt and different feet.
Love it!!!

Sorry.
I cannot post more than one pic at a time.
Don't know how to edit.
I think you get the gist anyway.

It looks exactly the same as my 1953 201K - so as you say parts manufactured in UK (Kilbowie, Scotland) and sent to Australia to be assembled in Penrith whilst mine was assembled in Kilbowie.

BTW Penrith is in Cumbria - far north west of England.  There is a small place walled Penwith in Cornwall - far south west of England.

The sewing machine my Mum had when I was a child looked very much like that.

The secret to adding additional pictures is that you MUST click on 'more attachments', then browse using the button that appears below the first one.

If you click on 'insert attachment' it will place the picture within the text, too.
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

I learned to sew on a 201, and it's probably one of my favorite machines.

If I could figure out how to turn it into a treadle without losing the motor, I would.

I use it a few times a week now.  Same machine I learned on.  Mom got it in 1966 or 1967 for $100 or 125...back then it was like 1000 USD now, and it was a used 1952 model.

Well I did virtually that with my Pfaff 30 treadle.
It also had a motor.
I had it rigged up for treadle use by just unbolting the motor and belt and laying it on the back of the treadle so I had the best of both worlds.
The motor was never used again as I enjoyed treadling a lot more.
I found I had more control with the treadle.
Stopping it by pinching the belt and delicate slow stitching by teasing the belt down with finger and thumb.
You are a trained tailor so you know what I mean.
If your machine is of the Alluminium kind like mine, I have seen that somebody converted it to hand cranker with the old style spoked fly wheel.
So I believe the old spoke 201 flywheel will fit the newer 201s.
You will need this type of wheel for a treadle.
Treadles also have some awesome punch.
I did a you tube some years back on my treadle Pfaff 30.
It went through eight thicknesses of thick denim.
Peter Cane Pfaff 30 treadle should get you there should you be interested.

Just watched your video and doesn't  ‘faffy’ sews beautifully!  :)

I’ve got a 1950’s Brother/Jones machine that needs servicing and a new motor adding but it’s a project and I’m looking forward to getting it working again.  :)
