If you like Linen then go to Ikea and buy their 100% Linen sheets.
Far cheaper than a fabric shop!
I love the feel and look of linen.
The oldest fabric known to us.
I make my shirts from it.
Sometimes I iron it and sometimes I just scum bag it and don't bother.
Either way it is happy and looks good.
I also French Polish my hand made Ukuleles.
I need to use Linseed oil with the process.
Here is the link...
LIN.....
Linseed oil is made from the flax of LIN en!!!
All good stuff To know.
Or maybe Not.
Thought I'd throw it in anyway.

Well, it has never occurred to me that linseed oil comes from flax.
It's quite true that you learn something new every day  :)
Life's too short for ironing.

I knew about the linseed oil, I'm a Geek about things like that.

No IKEA for several hundred miles so I just checked online. Only the Purdwhatever, queen size, in white.

But, I was looking for a link to your ukulele creations. I've been considering getting a uke. Hope we get to see the beauties.  :meditation:
Hey Bill! Read the manual!  Hehehe.

Renegade sewist.
I am excited to hear that you are interested in learning the Uke.
It is very easy to play and rewarding.
I wish you the best.
I dare not post a picture of one of my Ukes as this is a sewing forum.
Don't know how to answer that unless a moderator allows me to show you a pic of one maybe in the "Cafe"?
I am not here to sell my produce , they sell themselves but will gladly show you a pic with moderator permission.
Moderators...can I or can I not?
That is the question. Ha ha

Hi @Sewot

Great thread!
I’m lucky enough to live in Ireland with an interesting history of producing beautiful linen cloth.

Anyone interested in learning more, please follow the link.

Feel free to post a uke pic in the Cafe - we're very liberal here...  ;) ... it gets confusing if instruments get mixed in with fabric threads, but there's a place for most things.
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

I'm with @WildAtlanticWay on this one. My grandmother's family were weavers and my great grandfather was a tenter. He travelled all over Ireland at the beginning of the 20th century for work. My aunt, when she married, moved to Armagh and lived in Linen Hill House.  0_0

The clue's in the name but not necessarily the one we know best. Linseed is just the seed of the flax - which can also be called flaxseed but the oil makers clearly preferred a technical term - referencing the botanical name of Linum usitatissimum (well the first 3 letters anyway, there's a limit to what you can fit on the bottle label).

Just to add that extra dash of mystery, it's pronounced like Des of sporting moustache fame.  Aint it fascinating? Well for some of us nerdy folk anyway... ;)
Hopefully back more regularly! Ballroom sewing may be permanently paused but bag making is the current focus.

We recently had some most beautiful blue fields nearby.
They were growing Linum of some sort and the mass of flowers was spectacular. Just like a Mediterranean sky brought to earth.  All gone to seed, now.  They were definitely annuals, but whether for Linseed Oil or as an addition to animal feed, I don't know.
( I may have to creep out and glean a few seeds to plant in my flower beds. )
