Stitching alphabet on Pfaff 2046

Sorry - a bit of a basic question - are the feed dogs up when stitching letters on this machine?
I'm stitching a sequence of letters but they seem to be stitching on top of one another - its the same problem whether the feed dogs are up or down.
All the other stitches work perfectly - decorative, quilting etc. but I'm really struggling with the letters.
anyone got any suggestions?

Feed dogs should be up or it won’t work.  Do you need a different foot?

Dont know what was happening earlier   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  but when I tried again I got this!  Perfect stitching.....

@annieeg of course you did!   .  That’s what happens when you ask for help.  Glad it’s working ok now.  They do stitch nicely.
