wrenkins, it's a great visual but that's bad.  It has to be a problem with the manufacturing.  Actually, I have attached iron-on interfacing to a knit - very carefully.  So, I have technically ironed some.  If the cut pieces roll, you could try double sided washaway tape to hold them together when you sew.  I've made a set of dance costumes with a striped knit with the structural integrity of wet tissue.  If I looked at it, it shifted out of alignment.  I had to lay it out crosswise because if the stripes were horizontal, they looked like a patch-eyed drunken pirate had cut it out on a ship in a hurricane.

I have the most outrageous fabric bought in Charlee Girl's closing down sale and it would be ideal for this but do I have the courage to tackle stretchy? Prolly not.  :(

Stretchy tartan  :o
If it's knitted it will have to have the tartan/checked design printed onto it. >:)
What are the chances of it being printed straight, not to mention the curling.  I think it will be a £&^^!*  to sew. :ninja:
I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with it  -<

@wrenkins If you're too scared of that fabric, you could give it away to some one like me who loves jersey.

@Bodgeitandscarper if I sent you all the beautiful jersey I own I would have no loft insulation!  :o I buy it to try and make myself tackle stretchy but it gives me the willies. I even have lots of lovely patterns too.  :(
In my head I am swanning about in perfectly fitted T-shirts and girlie dresses. I'm deluded I don't even own a dress and if I did I wouldn't wear it which is why I haven't got one...

It just happens that two of the fabrics in my 10kg lucky dip haul is checked.

There's a big piece, 4m x 165cm of a dark burgundy printed with pink which is very stretchy and of course does roll which I think might make a nice winter dress.  I'll be happy giving that a go.

The other piece is woven poly suiting, coffee colour with chocolate stripes, now whilst I like the taste of both coffee and chocolate they are definitely not my colours for wearing! :ninja:  Not sure if I could do anything I'd like with it.  It's a much smaller piece, 1.4m x 145cm.

@wrenkins Have you got an overlocker?  They make sewing stretchy an absolute doddle, really they do!

I do. I've even used it to finish edges of things!
It's the cutting out. How do you make it just lie there and stop wriggling about? With wovens you set them down and they stay there. With stretch you can stick it to the carpet, table, cutting surface in any shape you don't want.  :(

Cotton jersey behaves pretty well, usually.  Even with added lycra.  Some of my Girl Charlee fabrics are very stretchy though.  Not sure whether there's something else in there with the cotton and lycra, or they ahve a special way of making it stretchy.
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

I found my blue tartan! So pencil skirt on the way once I've finished the grey one.

I found laying knits on my quilting mat is excellent. Doesn't stick to anything at all. Just wish I had more table space than the 35"x26“ or whatever the big mat is

@wrenkins I don't usually have too much of a problem with jersey. If you take a run at it you will be fine. Wildly patterned stretchy tartan sounds fabulous. Can't wait to see your creation.  :D

Must have a go at this competition... rummages through stash for wildly patterned stretchy tartan.....

Actually there's a nice piece of tartan in my charity shop pile. May have to rescue it.
