My first every computer sewing machine was bought on a whim after I went into for a reel of thread (1992).  At the time I took home with me a brochure for the Newhome 363, which I think was the top range mechanical at the time.

Lately I've got all nostalgic wondering if I would  have still kept it based on the options it had and it's sturdiness.  So just lately I've been lingering on this, which wouldn't break the bank but I would have to make a Sophie's choice.

They look very similar really and I am very tempted   Terrible when you hope things get sold to save yourself from expense.

I know what you mean about hoping things get sold!  I saw a lovely little Featherweight on eBay, bid for it, (reasonable price)and was outbid by £1 at the end.  Secretly I was pleased when someone had beaten me to it!
I have learnt by my mistakes: Sewing machines now are Bernina 720, Bernina 1008, Bernina 801 from 1981, Brother overlocker, ancient but works well
