Twist and Twirl Tut evolving
« on: May 17, 2017, 10:53:45 AM »
into a 21st Birthday present for my lovely niece Lucia!

So I started with some TnT blocks.....

No I need way more than that ...and what about adding some red???  :sew:

Ooohhhh I like that!!! But we still need LOADS more TnT blocks.....Back to the sewing machine  :sew:

The lengths okay but I'm going to go Bananas making enough blocks to cover the width...
How about inserting strips between each row, making each strip 1/2" wider the further from the centre they go ???

That works!!! then with a border It 'll be bish bash bosh and we're home and dry...

Right two halves sewn and ready for the border... I fancy some red in those too... and smaller, say 2" finished...
Now what measurements am I looking at (eyes the two halves hung against the wall of the dining room)

WTF ????? AAAAGGGGHHHHHHH!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Can you spot the stupid mistake????? (impossible not to, really!)   :(

Actually, ( ducks behind sofa... always makes me think of Rubes  :D ) I'd prefer it without any red  :|

I'm just coming over to the dark side to peek at you all and I'm in awe. It's like a big puzzle!

I have spent ages staring at it and I can't see any flaw.

Yes, I can see it - you'll have to do a bit of unpicking :(

When I saw the first piccie with red in I thought what on earth.... but now it's all together I can see the proper sequence of the red and it looks good.

Oooooh one is narrower. I see.

I'm guessing it's not too tough to unpick and swap them over. At least it's a long straight line!

you'll have to do a bit of unpicking

A bit ??!! A BIT ??!!!!

Yes Girls, you are correct I sewed two of the strips to the wrong side of the column of blocks!

It is now unpicked, the blocks made good (they were becoming apart at the seams)
A new 2 1/2" strip cut and then I went back to make some more blocks for my teensy 2" set of TnT.....

Which I made with the wrong fabric for the twist the first time,

Sewed so the twist was the wrong way the second time

(easyish fix ... just sew down the other side of the triangle, chain piecing as you go, then ...
more unpicking of the first sewn side...Hey presto the twist is running the right way!)

aaaand then I found I had used the Black, White and Red patterned fabric for the 12 extra blocks I needed (the others in the border are just B&W )

Sod it .... I thought and added 6 of those blocks to the top of the left border and 6 to the bottom of the right!

Looks really good, I like it with the red but I must admit that I wouldn't have thought of that. I can follow a pattern but design isn't my strong point.

After my self imposed technology free day while Ctn Jack and his Dad went frolicking on the high seas

I had a very productive day...This is a pic 3/4 way  though and Im pleased to announce I now have both halves of Lucia's quilt top finished!

Its got awfully big and I'm beginning to doubt my ability to quilt it, even in two halves!!! Gulp!
