Any ideas for a bubble or cocoon shape top?
« on: September 03, 2020, 09:49:48 AM »
I'm getting a bit bored with my usual swing tops, and rather like the cocoon shape - but with nicely fitted shoulders and through the bust.  And of course it wouldn't blow up in the wind like a flared top.

Or any other suggestions?  I like the kinda Lagenlook, but hate the baggy shoulders, I'm just so fussy!

And it's mainly for jersey fabric, I need stretchy, I get claustrophobic in anything tight that doesn't give.

Don't spose anypeeps have any ideas of patterns???

StyleArc Tessa?

There are several other StyleArc cocoon tops - Sunny and Jara - but they do have dropped shoulders.
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

That's nice, but those shapeless shoulders just don't do anything for me when the rest of my body is shapeless  :(

Interesting that there doesn’t seem to be many patterns around unless you have dropped shoulders or kimono sleeves.  What about a small extended or cap sleeve?
I did find this but it’s a dress

Or this which is very simple

Another dress which could be shortened

Actually have a look here.  It’s Lagenlook and you might find something a bit different.

What about

The pockets would be handy for doggie treats.  :D

Another one

and line drawings.  It could, however, be a bit too formal.

@UttaRetch  I do actually have Butterick 6491, and made it up as a coat, but it's a bit odd round the neck/shoulders, as it slips backwards, leaving the neck gaping.  I have even just tried it on, thinking about using it for a top but making the neck and shoulders from my T&T patttern, and shorter too.
I think I may have V9171 too, but it just seems a bit too baggy.

@Ohsewsimple I do believe the Style Arc Venice may be the one, shortened and I won't be faffing with welt pockets in jersey.  I'm still looking through pearlredmoon, I'd forgotten about them.

I've made this several times in woven and stable knit fabrics (~5% stretch ), as long as the fabric drapes nicely it's really comfy and fits well at the shoulders and bust . I made a size smaller than usual and just added a little width to the whole length of the sleeves.

I like the look of V9171, especially since it doesn’t have seams at the shoulder. Reading some of the reviews, I would probably make it one or two sizes smaller, depending on the fabric. I’d have to buy it in a sale though as the price of Vogue patterns is now  :scream:

Don't expect to get a 50% discount either.  I think the sale discount has dropped to 40%.

I will if I get it from the U.S. site. Another member has just posted about a sale. I can't be asked though. I have plenty to keep me busy.
