Problem threading my embroidery machine.
« on: September 14, 2020, 14:23:12 PM »
My threader was malfunctioning so I got it fixed (under warranty.). Yesterday, I finally had a chance to use it again.  I had no problems threading, except for one spool of black embroidery thread.  I can’t understand why the threader worked with all the other colors, but not that one.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any ideas why this would happen?

I had trouble with buttonholes... but only with black thread. Maybe it’s the dye they use.

Probably the dye.  Oh haven’t hit the needle threader out have you?

I think the sensors might have trouble recognising the black dye. Maybe.

When I switched to a different black thread it worked.

Oh that’s good @Sara-S.  What thread were you trying to use?   I’d always use a quality thread and not something cheap.

Black threads can often be troublesome.  I know if I stitch the same design in a colour and then a black, the black will break a couple of times.

I think that it's the dye that causes problems: you often find that tension needs to be adjusted for black thread wrt other colours and certainly in my machine knitting days a black yarn would knit up very differently to other colours of the same yarn. The number of times that I finished a red school jumper for DD and started a black one for DS only to have to change tension and start again as the black yarn seemed to be noticeably thicker

It's the same with shoe dye. If you look at two identical shoes - one black and the other brown or another colour, the black one will always be stiffer and harder than the other. It affects the leather differently.

The problem thread was embroidery thread. The one that worked was regular sewing thread.

Oh that’s a shame then @Sara-S.   Might be worth trying a different make of embroidery thread.

Update- bought some new black thread from a different brand and it works with the threader.
