Any thoughts on metal (steel) vs polyester boning for tutu hoops?
Wanting something lightweight.  It's all very confusing!
Your thoughts and experiences appreciated.

Is it @Marniesews and @Lollipop that do costumes?

Sorry @SandyP I haven’t been able to use my laptop for a while so missed your question. Definitely metal hooping for a tutu. I use Hoopwire hooping for the tutu and spiral steel boning for the bodice. You can buy both from Tutus and Textiles. You might get away with polyester boning in the bodice but definitely not the tutu as they are quite a weight when finished.

Hi Sandy P
I'll just agree with Lollipop as I'm rather relieved I don't have to wrestle with hooping - big ballroom skirts are more than enough for me. Hope it goes well.  :)
Hopefully back more regularly! Ballroom sewing may be permanently paused but bag making is the current focus.

I use the Hoopwire from Tutus and Textiles or the 7mm Steel Boning (continuous steel boning) from Vena Cava Designs for my tutu plates. I tend to use the Hoopwire for older dancers tutus as it's quite expensive due to the cost of shipping from the US. All other tutus I use the Vena Cava hooping, it is less expensive but no problem with the quality or weight. For all my bodices I only use spiral boning.
Lover of tutus and all things sparkly. ......and the odd glass of the red stuff.
