Decorative trim Q
« on: January 28, 2021, 18:58:31 PM »
Hello,

I am not so confident in sewing, despite having studied fashion few years back.

I have a quick, query, how do I finish the ends of decorative trim, on a sleeve?

Appreciate if anyone can advise.

Please see image. Thanks

Not easy for me to describe, but I'll give it a go.

I would turn one end under, and then tuck the raw edge underneath it.  It sounds very simple written down, but does it tell you what you need to know?

Maybe someone else will come along with a better explanation/method... ;)

I would join it and press the seam open...then sew it to the cuff.

Either the way @b15erk describes, or just butt the two ends together, use a bit of fray check to stop the ends from ravelling, and carefully hand sew the two ends together.

Another option would have been to apply the trim before making the seam.  That would leave two seam allowances of trim, and again hand finishing would be necessary.
