Mini Challenge 1 - Stripes (5-15 Nov)
« on: November 05, 2020, 14:34:46 PM »
Hi, here's a mini challenge -  stripes.

(There are no prizes. If you are in England under lockdown this might be a nice distraction. The idea is to make something this week to avoid Lockdown Blues.
The challenge is not limited to those locked down in England, and is intended to be a bit of fun to get the creative juices flowing.)

Try to use what you have to create anything with stripes. This could be striped fabric which you make into a garment, accessory or home item. Or you could create stripes by adding other fabrics or trim.

I have started something striped, which I will share once completed.

(extended to 15th)

I've done a bit more to my Hadron collider project - definitely striped.

Agree the pencils are great but I also like the geometric with the dots.  I'm a sucker for polka dots.

Ahah! Coincidentally I made a striped jersey top today. I might shorten it a tad so I'll share it when that's done. It's not terribly exciting but I shall wear it a lot, even if the only person who'll be close enough to see it is himself  :).

I'm thinking of starting a 'fence rail' quilt so it's sort of stripes.  :D

Why England?
Because the other regions have different rules, the Lockdown is in England only and other areas may have less restrictions. Maybe I've worded it badly? It was just meant to be a bit of fun.

I have a piece of pink and white striped jersey that is destined to become a rugby shirt.  I have about 6 other things that need to be done first, but who knows?  I may retrieve my mojo from wherever it's hiding.  (I hope to goodness it isn't in the field shelter with the quilt police...  :scream: )

I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

OK here's my Mini Challenge entry

Red and dark navy (looks black) striped tee, cut on the diagonal for an interesting effect.
For the pattern I used a mash up of the long sleeve from Simplicity 8375 and the body and neckline from Simplicity 8376. But any basic tee pattern would work.
I wanted to do something different than the classic horizontal striped tee, so folded the fabric on the diagonal and cut all the pieces out like that. I treated the diagonal fold as the new grain line, cutting the front, back and neckband on that fold and the sleeves parallel to it.
It is quite fun, but perhaps would have been better with the neckband on the cross grain.
