Hi I have been sewing for about 5 years mainly making kites, kite bags. re-usable face masks etc and am now the family 'go to' guy for all things sewing. I am thinking of making some clothing from scratch.

Welcome to the forum.  I think most folks that sew got into the mask making thing!
I’m sure you’ll find it’s of help on here.

I have made dozens of the things. I am an engineer so made metal templates for different sizes and use a rotary cutter. It seems cutting the fabric accurately is key.

Ploshkin I am already corrupted. I do applique on my kites so collect any kite remnants I can find and making kite bags I will not let any clothes/bags/golf club bags go to the tip until all zips, straps, clips and buttons have been removed. Also in my village we have a Loros warehouse/shop a rich source of materials.
