Do you clean your machine before starting a new project?

Do you clean your machine before starting a new project?

I'm starting a new table runner today and as I always do I clean my machine before I begin any new project, quilting or garment sewing.

This is the amount of 'fluff' removed by using the little cleaning brush that came with the machine and it's all from my last project which was also a table runner.

I should probably book it in for a service soon.

I'm Nikki and I am usually sewing happily on a Janome 9450QCP with a Janome 6260QC as a backup/sewing class machine. I also like to knit and crochet.

Yes I clean my machine too but it only goes for service when it stops playing nicely!

I clean mine but not necessarily at the beginning of each project.... very rarely get them serviced, there’s no one in this area ( that I’d trust)

I do it when I remember - more often clean the overlocker as it gathers fluff like nobody's business. I bought some keyboard-cleaning attachments for Henry hoover so I can suck out the fluff. They're cheap and cheerful and the plastic smells vile but they are effective.

I clean mine at the end of a project sometimes during perhaps after a lot of piecing before I start to quilt.

I’m having my Bernina services to keep the seven year warranty in place but my engineer knows that my machine will come in clean so he only has to update the software and check the parts I don’t have access to.

Generally when I fill the bobbin I give it quick brush out.  Servicing/repair reserved for something drastic, although not too worried as it now has a 5 year guarantee. I'm not really what you might call a heavy user.  I would say that the one I sold recently still looked like it came out of a showroom. Perhaps I ought to do better in other things.

The last time I helped @Lowena open up her machine there was not a lot of fluff .

Yes unless I cleaned it at the end of the last project.

Not every project.  Depends what I’m doing.  Overlocker gets a lot more cleaning. I also have a hoover accessory and it’s great for really getting all the muck out.

No in a word. I use a small makeup brush to clean the overlocker whenever I change the thread or see lint near the presser foot.

I clean a machine when I finish using it, and make a note of when I last oiled it - but i have a herd of vintage machines so perhaps not typical?

I clean mine after a big project espcially after quilting.
Always amazes me how much fluff accumulates.
Do have access to a baby Henry but not found that very satisfactory

I have an idea that all fabric is told to leave its fluff outside the door before it's allowed into @Lowena 's house.
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.
