Problems with shirring
« on: April 02, 2021, 12:35:21 PM »
Hello!

I'm trying to make shirring, and when i put my elastic thread in the bobbin, the top thread loses all tension

Do you know why it could be? I've watched thousands of tutorials now...

How are you winding the bobbin?

Have you watched The Stitch Sisters YouTube video guide to using shirring elastic?

If everything else seems right, have you double-checked the thread path of the top thread? I only ask because I've been caught out by that before - more than once!

I never stretch the elastic, just try to wind it on without tension.

Use a long stitch length.

Are you sure your elastic is following the correct path when leaving the bobbin?

Remember you need to do 3 or 4 rows before you see the full shirring effect.

Yes... don’t stretch the elastic when you wind it on the bobbin. Just a nice and evenly. The first few rows of shiring don’t look good but it’s OK when you’ve done a few more.
